****IT'S A LONG POST, BUT SUMMARISES WHAT WE INTEND TO DO DURING THE 2017/2018 YEAR****
-Firstly, our main goal is to make UOWD students have a great university experience. Help people have a good time at campus, meeting new people, getting to know more about other cultures. As well as this, we want to create an environment where students feel comfortable telling us about the things that are bothering them- even things they need help as you would ask a friend. HOW:
-Many general member's candidates as well as sports representative and the other Slate running stated the importance of Event planning. We highly support this idea and will elaborate on this
-Collaborating with other University Council bodies; This would give us an insight of how they organise their activities and how they manage their Council.
-Reaching out to students personally in order to increase interactivity. Promoting a sociable environment to make friends!! .Some examples
1. For freshers, we wanted to go to each class to tell them who we are, how to contact us and state that we are approachable, etc;
2.Talking to our own in-class colleagues, tell them who we are and that they can approach us any time. It is important for students to know who we are, know our faces so that they can talk to us any time they see us around.
3. Making parties likeable for everyone. Meaning that for example, the Fresher's party won't be only targeted for freshers. It will be a party where among others, freshers can get to know other students. Perfect if they are looking for making friends that are their same age, similar course, etc.
4. As well as keeping up with the events, It would be nice to implement organising gatherings outside of University at establishments.
For example, lets say a meet-up at a cafe/ lounge, in city walk, kite beach -Depending on how many people is interested. Where each can choose how much money to spend. There's so many places in Dubai.
5. Promote more little day trips to IMG, Green Planet, Cinema, Waterparks, etc We could even plan to go to for brunch if people want. Just like you would do with your friends.
-Christina, personally, has been working on scheduling an inter-university competition for Dance, Music, Drama and battle of DJs, hosted by UOWD for the first time (in Autumn).
