ICCROM-Sharjah (Architectural and Archaeological Tangible Heritage in the Arab Region) is a regional conservation centre founded by ICCROM and the Government of UAE in the Emirate of Sharjah. ICCROM-ATHAR (Architectural and Archaeological Tangible Heritage in the Arab Region) is a regional conservation centre founded by ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration
of Cultural Property), and the Government of the UAE/ Emirate of Sharjah. ICCROM’s 27th General Assembly, convened in Rome in November 2011, decided to establish the Regional Conservation Centre in Sharjah, UAE, in the United Arab Emirates where it is based since its inception in 2012. The Regional Conservation Centre (ICCROM-Sharjah) is a continuation of ICCROM’s ATHAR programme, which has dedicated its activities since it was launched in 2004, to the protection of cultural heritage in the Arab region and to broadening access, appreciation and understanding of its rich history. Basing its philosophy, goals and activities on its wide knowledge and experience in the field of cultural heritage in the Arab region, the Centre - as a regional office of ICCROM - works today to enhance the capacity of official heritage institutions to manage heritage sites, historic monuments and museum collections on a sustainable basis.
المركز الإقليمي لحفظ التراث الثقافي في الوطن العربي (إيكروم – الشارقة) أسسه المركز الدولي لدراسة حفظ وترميم الممتلكات الثقافية (إيكروم) بدعم من حكومة إمارة الشارقة ورعاية كريمة من صاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد القاسمي، عضو المجلس الأعلى وحاكم الشارقة. وقد اتُّخذ القرار بإنشاء المركز في اجتماع الجمعية العمومية السابع والعشرين لمنظمة إيكروم (تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2011) الذي عقد في مقرها الرئيسي بروما.
والمركز هو استمرار لبرنامج "آثار" بمنظمة إيكروم الذي كرس نشاطاته منذ إنشائه عام 2004 لحماية التراث الثقافي في الوطن العربي ولتوسيع مجالات التعرّف على تاريخه الثري وفهمه وتقديره.
يسعى مركز إيكروم-الشارقة إلى تعزيز قدرات العاملين في مؤسسات التراث الرسمية في الدول الأعضاء على إدارة مواقع التراث الثقافي والمعالم التاريخية والمجموعات المتحفية وفق أسس مستدامة، وذلك تطبيقًا لرؤيته وأهدافه المبنيّة على المعرفة الواسعة التي اكتسبها والخبرة العميقة التي طوّرها في مجال التراث الثقافي في الوطن العربي.
