Barbuda Legacy: Planning #FutureBarbuda Together

This time last year, the Maya Blue Team worked with the outstanding students from Holy Trinity Primary School and Sir McChesney George Secondary School.

We are taking a moment to appreciate the creative visions of through the eyes of Barbudan youth as we await the plan's final draft, which will soon be shared with the community.

Their inspiring comments and artwork are featured in the upcoming plan. They are indeed ⚡️

Well, our comminity meetings are completed for this visit.

Yesterday we met with young people from Sir McChesney George Secondary School and we had Community Meeting 4: Defining key spaces, places, and connections with input from local village historian Calvin Gore who, with others, refined place names on our maps.

The community really engaged with the visual representations created by our urban design team and loved the idea to reuse of ruins as positive nature spaces.

To those who showed up and got involved with discussions around a future growth strategy for Barbuda that encourages prosperity and supports sustainable land use THANK YOU!

Last night in our Community Meeting 2, the session started with everyone working together to define Barbudan districts, discussing future services and the community's essential needs. Lots of valuable insight was shared; thank you.

🛬 The Maya Blue Consortium will be landing in Barbuda later this month.

⌛The last time we were with you was in July 2021, when you shared your vision for with us.

We have been working behind the scenes on the plan's next steps to formulate a technically, economically feasible, socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable development plan.

🗣️ We need to hear from you again, so we are planning a programme of several community sessions (both in person and featured on the Barbuda Channel) to continue shaping the plan together. We will share ideas based on your previous feedback and draft the next crucial step on this journey with you.
