Mapping of our inventory of archaeology sites is quite sobering. So many have been lost that finding an intact site is now a rare event. Yesterday we returned to the Crabbs area after nearly 30 years and found the massive Archaic site that dates back to the 1800s BC is still in good shape. It's also a lot bigger than we thought. These early people did not make pottery but we're excellent makers of flint/stone tools. Here are a few blades and flakes from Long Island flint. Here are some useable flakes and blades with still share cutting edges and a rare hammer stone if fossilized wood.

I have been monitoring this site for coastal erosion for over twenty five years.....the seaweed has slowed the erosion and the dredging operation has caused some deposition but the erosion continues.
