From trash to treasure ! ♻️✨🌎
Yesterday , the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and regional partners, hosted a Capacity Building Training for Waste-to-Energy Technologies at the Villa Community Centre.
This important workshop brought together representatives from key government ministries and agencies to strengthen Antigua and Barbuda’s ability to critically assess Waste-to-Energy (WtE) proposals through technical, environmental, financial, and institutional lenses.
Participants explored:
-Key principles and considerations for Waste-to-Energy technologies in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
-Lessons learned from regional and international case studies
-Common risks and challenges associated with WtE proposals
-Practical application of the Waste-to-Energy Assessment Tool to support informed, evidence-based decision-making
As Antigua and Barbuda continue to advance in sustainable waste management solutions, initiatives like these are essential to fostering innovation, promoting circular economy principles, and protecting our environment for future generations.
A sincere thank you to UNEP, our facilitators, and all participants for their engagement and commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Antigua and Barbuda.
