EVEN HAITI BEAT US-well now

That ZERO may look like just another number in a table. It is not.

Zero B1/B2 visas issued to Antiguans and Barbudans in January. Zero in February. Zero.

Behind that zero are real people and real consequences.

It is the student whose plans for education are disrupted. The small business owner who cannot travel to restock and must now find longer, more expensive routes to keep a business alive. The patient whose medical options have narrowed. The mother or father who cannot attend a child’s graduation. The grandparent who cannot visit family. The person who cannot simply get on a plane to be beside a loved one during illness, crisis or death.

That zero represents opportunities lost, families separated, businesses constrained and ordinary citizens paying the price for decisions they did not make.

And perhaps the most bitter part? Many of the politically connected people who presided over the decisions that brought us here will continue to travel. Their families will travel. Their businesses will find ways to restock. They have the resources, connections and alternatives to cushion themselves from the consequences.

The ordinary Antiguan and Barbudan does not.
