Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service Welcomes New Domestic Fire Truck

The Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service has officially added a new domestic fire truck to its fleet, increasing the number of operational fire vehicles to three.

The new truck carries 1,800 gallons of water and 50 gallons of foam, strengthening the Service’s ability to respond to major fire incidents more efficiently and effectively.

Hon. Minister Jose Vanterpool and Hon. Parliamentary Secretary Cordell Richardson were also present for a tour of the new equipment, reaffirming Government’s continued commitment to protecting lives, property, and communities across Anguilla.

The Class B 18 Degrees Boat Race is officially underway, with 7 boats taking to the water and competing for top honours.

The crews are set, the sails are up, and the competition is on as these talented sailors put their skill, teamwork, and determination to the test.

As always, safety remains a priority throughout the event. SAR 1 is on the water, providing safety coverage and support to help ensure a safe and successful race for all involved. 🚤🦺

🌊⛵ Race Complete – Premier’s Cup Around-the-Island Race ⛵🌊

The Class A Anguilla Day Premier’s Cup Around-the-Island Race has officially come to an end,

Eight boats started the challenging journey around the island, with six boats successfully completing the race. The event showcased the skill, determination, and endurance that continue to make boat racing such an important part of Anguilla’s heritage and culture. 🇦🇮💙

Safety remained a top priority throughout the event. SAR 1 was on the water providing safety coverage, alongside the Marine Patrol Unit and the Dutch Coast Guard, whose support and presence were greatly appreciated.

We extend our thanks to all crews, race officials, and support personnel who contributed to a successful and safe event. Most importantly, we are pleased that everyone returned safely.

Congratulations to all who participated, and thank you to everyone who played a role in making today’s race a success.

🚤🦺 Boating Safety Reminder – Anguilla Day Boat Race 🦺🚤

As the Premier’s Cup Around-the-Island Race gets underway, we encourage all boat operators and passengers following the race to make safety their top priority.

⚓ Maintain a safe distance from all racing vessels.
⚓ Follow instructions given by race officials and safety personnel.
⚓ Avoid crossing the race course or interfering with competing boats.
⚓ Ensure all persons on board have access to properly fitted life jackets.
⚓ Do not overload your vessel.
⚓ Keep a proper lookout for other vessels, swimmers, and changing sea conditions.
⚓ Operate at a safe speed and avoid unnecessary wake near race participants and spectator boats.
⚓ Never operate a vessel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Remember, the race is for everyone to enjoy, but safety must always come first. By acting responsibly on the water, we help ensure that all participants, spectators, and support crews return home safely.

Chief Fire Officer Shondell Hodge and Fire Station Officer Omari Bourne attended the Caribbean Association of Fire Chiefs Annual Conference in the Dominican Republic last week. The focus was on developing a regional strategic plan under the theme “Beyond Borders: Advancing Integrated Emergency Management Across the Caribbean.”

The week began with an opening ceremony and a regional business meeting focused on building strategic leadership skills for high-level disaster and fire/EMS operations. Sessions covered advanced decision-making and crisis management strategies for large-scale incidents, strengthening understanding of legal responsibilities in leadership, and improving operational command and coordination in multi-agency regional responses.

On Wednesday 13 May 2026, the Fire Prevention Unit of the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service hosted a Fire Safety Training Workshop aimed at educating government workers on basic fire safety and emergency preparedness.

A total of 30 participants from the Department of Sports, the Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority, the General Post Office and the Mental Health Unit took part in the training session, which was facilitated by Ag. Sub. Officer Carronelle Gumbs-Romney.

Remarks were delivered by Deputy Governor Mr. Perin Bradley, who emphasized the importance of prevention, preparedness and community resilience. In his address, he stated:

“The true measure of an emergency response system is not only how effectively it responds to crisis, but how successfully it prevents tragedy before it occurs.”

The workshop included both theoretical and practical sessions, including the proper use of fire extinguishers and emergency response procedures.

The Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service remains committed to promoting fire prevention awareness and building a safer community through continued public education and training initiatives.
