His Majesty’s Prison, Anguilla, wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Director of Prison Ag Mr. Nicklon Elliot and the members of the Guyana Prison Service.

The exposure, partnership, and collaboration established have created numerous opportunities for officers across the region to unite forces, share knowledge, and gain valuable experience essential for delivering high-quality, purposeful, and sustainable correctional services.

Thanks to these collaborative efforts, HMP Anguilla has been honored with invitations to participate in correctional training programs in various countries. In August, the Bahamas will host our prison officers for a dog handlers training, providing accommodation, meals, and insurance coverage. Later this year, Guyana will also host officers from Anguilla to partake in training covering Rehabilitation, Staff Development, and Security Intelligence.

It has been an absolute pleasure to be part of these decision-making processes, knowledge exchanges, and idea development.

In September 2024, Superintendent of Prisons Ag. Mrs. Kerrice Saunders-Bernard was appointed as the Public Relations Officer for the Association of Caribbean Heads of Corrections and Prison Services. Since her appointment, she has actively championed initiatives for staff development, emphasizing training and exposure for both civilian and uniformed personnel across various ranks.

By 2025, this advocacy resulted in the deployment of two Senior Prison Officers and two Junior Prison Officers to the Cayman Islands for a comprehensive one-week training program. Following their participation, the two Officers received promotions to Senior Prison Officers. Later in the year, two Senior Management Staff were also deployed to Guyana for a one-week workshop and a Senior Management Conference. The insights and ideas gained from these engagements have since been translated into actionable initiatives.

Currently, Mrs. Saunders-Bernard is attending the Guyana Prison Service Senior Officers Conference, accompanied by Senior Prison Officer Allison Bourne and Prison Officer Mary O'Brien. As a result of this exposure, four slots have been allocated to His Majesty’s Prison, Anguilla, to enroll members in the University of Guyana. These officers will undertake four accredited correctional courses covering subjects such as Strategic Reform, Enhanced Operational Security, Human Resource Excellence, Wellness and Resilience, Emergency Detection, Risk Identification, Violence De-escalation, Operational Health, and Legal and Ethical Awareness.

The overarching goal of these initiatives is to empower and equip Prison Staff within HMP, Anguilla the necessary tools and knowledge to deliver efficient, effective and sustainable correctional services.
