📚 National Reconciliation Week 2026 | 27 May – 3 June

Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to reflect on how we can contribute to reconciliation.

This year’s theme, All In, reminds us that reconciliation requires all of us to listen, learn and take action together.

Visit our National Reconciliation Week displays at Cannington Library and Riverton Library to explore books, stories and resources celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, cultures and histories.

We welcome our community to come in, reflect, read and learn with us.

26/05/2026

On National Sorry Day, we acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors.

This year marks the 29th anniversary of the Australian Parliament’s tabling of the Bringing Them Home report in 1997. A report on the national inquiry into the forced separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, which made wide-ranging recommendations to address the harm caused to Stolen Generations Survivors and their families.

Learn more about the recommendations on The Healing Foundation website: healingfoundation.org.au.

The City of Canning respectfully acknowledges the resilience of survivors and stands with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as we continue on a path towards reconciliation.

We’ll be upgrading the service desk at the library entrance to improve visibility and accessibility.

Works are minor and the library will remain open, but there may be a little extra noise. If you prefer a quieter visit, we recommend popping in after the upgrade is complete.
