The Secretariat welcomed a distinguished delegation of senior executives from the Thai Oil Public Company Limited to its Vienna headquarters on September 2, 2026.

The visit featured high-level briefings on OPEC’s operational framework and institutional structure. Further discussions focused on oil and energy market outlooks, some of the challenges and opportunities shaping the global energy landscape and the value of cooperation in supporting sustainable energy development.

The meeting offered a valuable platform for constructive dialogue and knowledge exchange between OPEC and key energy market leaders at Thai Oil, one of Southeast Asia’s leading refiners.

The Technology Drive Scenario (TDS) assumes faster and larger investments in advanced energy technologies than the Reference Case. These investments result in significant fuel substitution and energy efficiency improvements, leading to lower primary energy demand and a changed energy mix. The TDS includes a greater deployment of carbon removal technologies (e.g. stationary and mobile CCUS and DAC technologies).

The Equitable Growth Scenario (EGS) assumes moderately faster economic growth in developing countries, compared to the Reference Case, coupled with greater efforts to improve electricity access and eradicate energy poverty. It assumes that countries adopt differentiated approaches as to how and when they achieve emissions reduction targets in light of national circumstances. The result is higher long-term demand for energy, in general, and oil, in particular.

The OPEC Secretariat held a Technical Workshop on the Joint Organizations Data Initiative (JODI) oil and gas data submission today, via videoconference.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ayed S. Al-Qahtani, Director of Research Division, shared that the purpose of the workshop is to provide a collaborative platform for data sharing and technical engagement between the Secretariat and OPEC Member Countries within the JODI framework.

Dr. Al-Qahtani highlighted that “data that is accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date is indispensable, as it forms the basis of the Secretariat’s and oil industry’s insights. The more precise and trustworthy the data, the better we can monitor market trends, anticipate future shifts, and take informed actions.”
