On this World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Malta reaffirms its commitment to preventing exploitation, protecting victims and prosecuting offenders. Through the implementation of Malta’s National Strategy and Action Plan on Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings (2024–2030), support for the UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Blue Heart Campaign, awareness-raising initiatives, and continued engagement in multilateral efforts, 🇲🇹 remains committed to combating this grave violation of human rights and human dignity.

As criminals leverage technology and artificial intelligence to expand their reach, the fight against trafficking in persons requires stronger international cooperation, effective criminal justice responses, and a victim-centred approach. Today, criminal networks are increasingly exploiting vulnerable individuals through sophisticated online scam operations. Men and women are deceived, recruited and trafficked into compounds where they are forced to carry out online fraud and other illicit activities under threats, abuse and violence.

Let’s stand with victims and survivors, and renew our collective resolve to dismantle the criminal networks that profit from human suffering. 🇲🇹🇺🇳

🇲🇹🚴 The Embassy of Malta in Austria was pleased to welcome 35 Maltese cyclists to Vienna International Airport as they arrived to begin an inspiring 1,100-km cycling challenge through Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria in support of cancer research.

The Embassy, together with Visit Malta, greeted the participants and presented them with the Maltese flag, which they will proudly carry throughout their journey.

Organised by the ALIVE Charity Foundation, Malta's first cancer research fundraising organisation, this remarkable initiative brings together volunteers united by a shared commitment to advancing scientific research aimed at improving cancer diagnosis and treatment. Since its establishment in 2013, the Foundation has raised more than €1.1 million to support cancer research projects carried out through the University of Malta.

We are proud to support this meaningful initiative and thank Xjenza Malta for its generous support, and the Malta Tourism Authority and Twistees Malta for their valuable in-kind contributions.

You can find more information and support their cause through their website: https://alivecharity.com/.

On World Drug Day, 🇲🇹 reaffirms its commitment to a balanced, evidence‑based and human‑centred approach to the world drug problem, grounded in health, prevention, and effective law enforcement.

Recent findings point to increasingly complex and adaptable drug markets, including the growing presence of synthetic substances and the impact of instability in facilitating trafficking. At national level, Malta continues to strengthen its responses. The latest data highlight evolving patterns of drug use, including a diversification of substances, alongside sustained efforts in treatment, prevention, and harm reduction.

This year’s observance is a reminder that effective responses require coordinated action across health, justice, and social systems, ensuring that policies safeguard health, uphold human rights, and address vulnerabilities.

🌍🚺On the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, we join the international community in celebrating the achievements and contributions of women diplomats, mediators, peacebuilders, and leaders whose work strengthens international cooperation and advances peace and security worldwide.

🇲🇹Malta recognizes that effective diplomacy depends on the inclusion of diverse voices and perspectives. Women's leadership and expertise are essential to building consensus, strengthening international partnerships, and addressing the complex challenges facing our interconnected world. We therefore welcome continued efforts, both within and beyond international organizations, to advance the Women, Peace and Security agenda and translate commitments into meaningful action.

🌐Across diplomatic services, international organizations, and negotiation processes, women continue to make invaluable contributions to fostering dialogue and shaping more inclusive and sustainable solutions. Today, we celebrate these achievements while reaffirming 🇲🇹Malta’s commitment to removing barriers and creating opportunities for future generations of women leaders in diplomacy.
