Do you remember the picture books that first brought you joy?

The illustrations of a picture book can be enchanting, fun, and inspiring. They can tell a story of their own.

Here are five important benefits picture books bring to children who are learning to read.

1. Build language skills

2. Identify sequence

3. Improve comprehension

4. Spark a love of reading

5. Boost social-emotional learning

As kids begin to speak and build sentences, they learn to recognize sounds and patterns within spoken language. Picture books also explore difficult subjects like fear, grief, taking risks, building friendships, self-control, and so much more.

After summer holidays we resume our children’s readings in the book club. We are glad to meet you in our German-English kids library that is situated in the heart of Grinzing at Bilingual Primary School Meridian.

In our meetings we are reading different English stories, doing crafts, playing and improving literacy.

As you know, reading inspires, empowers and provides a link to all education throughout your children's life. Reading fires the imagination, builds confidence and creates a platform to a prosperous future.

We would like to ask you when and what time is good for you and your kids to join our club?

Although we often hear that reading is essential, many people don’t know specific reasons that kids need to read.
1. AN EXAMPLE SET BY YOU
One of the key benefits of taking a child to the library is that you, as the parent, are establishing an example as a reader. When children learn from an early age that reading is an essential part of life, they develop habits that make the decision to continue reading that much easier.
2. FREE ENTERTAINMENT
One of the most overlooked values of the library is that it provides resources for free. This quality can be especially important during the summer months when keeping kids entertained with summer camps, family vacations, and other opportunities quickly eat into a family budget.
Libraries often offer events or get-togethers that offer educational value and cost no money.
3. FREEDOM OF CHOICE
Opening a child’s eyes to the innumerable reading options available can change the way they approach books.
Providing students with options isn’t only about allowing them to choose a book on a topic they enjoy. It’s also teaching them that their voice and preferences matter and that they have many options in what they read and how they interact with the material.
4. LIBRARIANS WHO HELP THEM FIND BOOKS
One of the most classic reasons kids should go to the library is to receive help in finding materials. Though the freedom to choose their own books or other media is critical to developing consistent reading habits, having access to a knowledgeable professional who can help find materials on a variety of topics is key.
The benefit of local libraries for kids is that interaction with a live person who can get to know the child better can often yield more positive results.

Considering the benefits of libraries and how they can affect kids, access to these spaces should be a top priority when parents are selecting childcare options.

Who loves these non-fiction books for little people?
What we love about them is that they are incredibly engaging, informative, and the illustrations lend themselves to lots of discussion. Each page has loads of flaps and some with double flaps!

Do you want to read alouds to be more than just checking a box?
📚📚📚
Today we give you some tips to engage your kids in reading.
☀️ Repeated reading can be after a while, in fact it is an essential part for language development, literacy skills, and more. You can also advise them to try new books that they might also love!
☀️ It is much better to go at your child's step and read the same book for 30 minutes than rush through 10 books.
☀️ If your children are asking questions, that is a great sign they are engaged and curious! If we blow past them, they will stop asking. Answer their questions!
☀️ Reading the pictures is a necessary skill. If we don't allow time for it, children will miss so much of the story told through the illustrations. Make time to look. Share what you are noticing.

We also invite you and your kids to join our book club, where we read a lot of exciting stories!

☀️Happy reading☀️

On June 17, we will be reading a cute story about a dinosaur and his friends. Children will have fun. The book will be read by a native English speaker, and the children will be able to expand their English vocabulary.

Simple text about a boy and girl who keep finding wild animals in their house and try to hide them away somewhere. The beauty of this book is the illustrations! Kids will have fun finding the other animals somewhere in the new picture.
