During National Reconciliation Week, 5/6H explored the picture book Yakeen Dreaming and learned how Aboriginal artists use symbols, colour and pattern to tell stories and share knowledge.
We reflected on themes such as family, community, belonging, caring for Country, personal journeys and hopes for the future before creating our own symbolic artworks on canvas. Through our use of colour, symbols and pathways, each artwork tells a unique and personal story.
I am incredibly proud of the creativity, thoughtfulness and care that 5/6H demonstrated throughout this learning experience. The finished artworks are absolutely stunning and showcase the individuality of every student in our class - Mrs Handley

📚✨ Cessnock Public School students are contributing to the future of Australian education! ✨📚

Today, some of our Year 5 and Year 6 students proudly participated in the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) Item Trial, with our Year 3 students set to take part next week.

The Item Trial is an important part of the National Assessment Program and helps ensure future NAPLAN assessments are fair, reliable and of the highest quality for students across Australia. Schools selected to participate represent students from across the nation and play a valuable role in testing and evaluating assessment questions before they are used in future NAPLAN tests.

We are incredibly proud of the positive attitude, focus and effort shown by our students as they contribute to this important national initiative.

Well done to all students involved for representing Cessnock Public School so positively! 🌟👏

Way to go Ella! What an incredible achievement! ⚽👏

After playing four back-to-back trial games for the Hunter PSSA Soccer Team, Ella was selected in the top 24 players from a field of more than 100 girls to play a fifth trial match. From there, she impressed again and earned a place in the final 12, securing her spot in the Hunter Regional Team! 🎉

We are so proud of Ella's hard work, determination and outstanding effort throughout the trials.

Congratulations – we can't wait to see what comes next! 🐝 🖤💛
