The weekend that was - intense, exhausting and a sobering reminder of how fast conditions can escalate in the Northern Territory. When several wildfires ignited at once, the pressure on brigades and volunteer crews was immense -physically draining, emotionally heavy and made even harder with resources already stretched thin.

Volunteer firefighters and BFNT crews pushed through long hours, smoke, heat and uncertainty to protect homes, communities and lives.
These photos taken just south of Acacia Hills barely scratch the surface of what was happening on the ground — but they tell a story of grit, teamwork and unwavering determination to bring this particular fire under control.

Sincere acknowledgement to the volunteer firefighters from:

Berry Springs Volunteer Bushfire Brigade

Elizabeth Valley Volunteer Bushfire Brigade Inc

Darwin River Volunteer Bushfire Brigade

Manton Volunteer Bushfire Brigade

And to the BFNT crews, the aerial water bombers, heavy machine operators and every person behind the scenes who kept operations running -thank you. This was teamwork at its absolute best - quite swell of pride when you realise you’re part of something so genuinely good!

If you see a fire or suspicious activity report it immediately - dial 000.

Members of the Acacia Hills Volunteer Bushfire Brigade swapped out their firefighting gear and dressed up for the Siam Gala 2026 Dinner Under the Stars held at Tou’s Gardens. It was a truly magical night - the kind of event where community spirit and glamour meet under the mango trees.

Thank you to Tou and her crew for hosting this event - it’s a real investment in the community’s morale and nights like these remind everyone why local connections matter.

Members of the Acacia Hills Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and BFNT crews were actively engaged over the weekend. As we are currently in bushfire season, it is crucial to report any fires or suspicious activity immediately by calling 000.
When encountering smoke over the road, exercise caution by slowing down, switching on your headlights, and being vigilant for emergency personnel and fire units in the vicinity.
