A great day for Leidos Airborne Solutions at the recent Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia Summit in Adelaide.

Two of our team members took to the stage, with Director Airborne and Defence Business Development and Aviation/Aerospace Australia Chair Kristen Raby participating in the Summit’s Opening Session and ASOC Manager Rebecca Basson sharing her career journey and insights as part of the Spotlight on Tech Roles panel.

They were joined by a group of colleagues from operations, management and corporate functions to connect, learn and contribute to important conversations about the future of aviation and aerospace.

Events like these provide a valuable opportunity to share experiences, build connections and encourage more diverse perspectives and career pathways across our industry.

A fantastic day of conversations, connections and representation from across our team.

We participated in the Cairns Airport Careers Day earlier this month, where we spent the day speaking with aspiring aviation professionals about the exciting career opportunities available across Airborne Solutions.

A big thank you to Base Manager Dylan Lane and Dash 8 Captain and Fleet Manager Richard Hodgson for representing Leidos and sharing their insights into our operations with the record-breaking crowd of more than 3,500 people. From pilots and mission aircrew to engineering careers, there was strong interest from attendees keen to learn more about the diverse and rewarding roles that support our critical airborne missions.

Dylan had some extra help on the day, with his two young children joining him to support the team and help showcase the next generation's passion for aviation! ✈️

Thank you to Cairns Airport for hosting another great event and to everyone who stopped by to chat with us.

We recently sponsored and participated in SARCON53 – Australia’s inaugural Search and Rescue Conference.

Contract Manager Ollie Crump, Head of SAR Operations Glenn Chapman, and Mission Operations Solution Lead Aaron Emmett attended on behalf of Leidos, joining SAR professionals from across Australia to share knowledge, strengthen connections and explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of search and rescue.

Glenn also participated in a panel exploring how multi-role assets and service providers can strengthen search and rescue and disaster relief operations, alongside representatives from CHC Helicopter Australia, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority - AMSA and Marine Rescue Queensland.

Thank you to everyone who made SARCON53 possible and all those who contributed to a valuable few days of conversation and collaboration across the SAR community.

Leidos has been awarded a grant through the Queensland Government’s Sovereign Industry Development Fund to relocate and upgrade its Mission Equipment Service Centre in Cairns.

This specialist service centre provides sophisticated Australian industry capability for sustaining sensors and systems, including EO/IR systems, radars and integrated surveillance systems, used on a range of airborne and maritime platforms for defence and civil operations.

“Leidos is grateful for Queensland’s support, that will enable our Mission Equipment Service Centre to continue maintaining, repairing and overhauling critical sensors and systems across the region, while expanding support to additional sensors for military, police and other services.

“This grant will help sustain Australia’s sovereign capability and bolster Leidos’ presence in Cairns,” said Adrian Pettifor, VP Airborne Solutions, Leidos Australia.

Leidos employs more than 100 people across Queensland with its largest aviation base in Cairns. The proposed new facility would represent a significant upgrade for the existing service centre, adding capacity for team expansion.

Since joining our Darwin team earlier this year, Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Zachary Schultz has been building his skills, gaining hands-on experience and embracing every opportunity to learn.

Zac was drawn to the apprenticeship because of his long-standing interest in aviation and a desire to work on aircraft. Before joining Leidos, he gained valuable experience working in airport ground operations, giving him firsthand exposure to the fast-paced world of aviation and strengthening his passion for a career in the industry.

When he's not at work or studying, Zac enjoys riding motorbikes and spending time outdoors.

We're excited to have Zac on board and look forward to supporting him as he develops his skills and progresses his apprenticeship with us.
