✨ Shining a spotlight on South Australia’s space sector across the Eyre Peninsula!

Last week, our team hit the road for our four-day Regional Engagement Program alongside Southern Launch and Australian astronaut and Australian of the Year Katherine Bennell-Pegg.

Key highlights include:

🚀 We’ve had an impactful few days on the Eyre Peninsula as part of our Regional Space Engagement Program!

Our team, alongside Southern Launch and Australian astronaut and 2026 Australian of the Year, Katherine Bennell-Pegg, have spent the last couple of days visiting Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex and the Koonibba Test Range gaining insights into operations at the state's two launch facilities.

We've also had a blast engaging with hundreds of local school students and community leaders, enjoying the opportunity to meet Katherine, hear about her inspiring journey and engage in fun STEM activities.

It was great to see the enthusiasm from students, curious about topics ranging from black holes and life as an astronaut, to future space missions to the Moon and Mars.

👏 Our thanks to all the students and teachers involved from Lincoln Gardens School, St Joseph’s School, Koonibba Aboriginal School, Ceduna Area School, Penong Primary School, Navigator College, Port Lincoln High School, St Josephs School and local area schools from Cleve, Cummins, Cowell and Ceduna.

Space touches so many aspects of our everyday lives. It's been fantastic to engage with communities across the Eyre Peninsula and showcase South Australia’s space industry and the exciting career opportunities on our doorstep. 🌠

Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June), a time to reflect on our shared histories and recognise the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme “All In” is a call for all Australians to step off the sidelines and commit to reconciliation every day through actions that create meaningful change.

At SASIC, we’re committed to listening, learning and embedding respect in everything we do. We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional owners of the land on which we live and work, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
