Department for Energy and Mining, South Australia The Dept for Energy and Mining (DEM) embodies the critical link between our mining and energy sectors to achieve net zero emissions.

At DEM, we are responsible for driving game changing projects that are critical to South Australia’s economic future. DEM leads the global transformation economy, overseeing the responsible
mining and production of the minerals, metals and fuels of the future, to safely and sustainably generate the energy and low carbon products of the future. Our low cost power, leading regulation system and cult

ure of innovation is
leading to the decarbonisation of industry, new modern manufacturing
opportunities, increased employment and greater prosperity and security for the people of South Australia. We particularly acknowledge the essential role that traditional Aboriginal
people play in the energy and mining sector as land managers, heritage
custodians, business owners and community leaders. The Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) acknowledges Aboriginal people as the First Nations Peoples of South Australia. We recognise and respect the cultural connections as the Traditional Owners and occupants of the land and waters of South Australia, and that they continue to make a unique and irreplaceable contribution to the State.

🔋 Energised in Playford.

The latest emPoweringSA community battery has been switched on today in Elizabeth Park, expanding access to the program for eligible SA Housing Trust tenants and helping more households benefit from lower-cost electricity.

Part of South Australia's growing network of community batteries, the project is designed to ensure the benefits of renewable energy can be shared by people who are otherwise unable to access them, helping make the energy transition fairer and more affordable.

Eligible Housing Trust tenants located in the City of Playford council area can register their interest now to access the benefits of the program and potentially save on their electricity bills.

$7 billion. That's the record value of South Australia's energy and mining exports in 2025-26.

New ABS figures show copper continued to underpin that growth, with copper exports reaching a record $5.3 billion in the year to June 2026.

A significant milestone that reflects the continued strength of South Australia's resources sector and its contribution to jobs, investment and economic activity across the state.

Great to be at the TACTIC Trade & Conference Expo in Port Augusta this week, connecting with the people driving South Australia's energy and mining future.

Bringing together industry, government and community representatives from across the state, the event explored opportunities in resources, renewable energy, metal processing and defence throughout the Upper Spencer Gulf and beyond.

With the theme 'Turning opportunities into outcomes', discussions focused on how South Australia's resource and energy sectors can support long-term economic growth and investment.

Our team enjoyed speaking with attendees about the wide range of energy and resource projects underway across the Upper Spencer Gulf and outback regions, including developments in critical minerals and rare earths, as well as pathways for project development and investment.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by for a chat.

With NAIDOC Week recently celebrated across Australia, we're proud to share some of the ways we have been engaging in cultural learning, connection and reconciliation.

Celebrated nationally since 1975, NAIDOC Week recognises and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's theme, '50 Years of Deadly', celebrates five decades of honouring the strength, resilience and enduring contributions of First Nations peoples.

📣 Our staff joined the NAIDOC Week March last Friday, taking to the streets in a vibrant celebration of culture, community and pride.

🎬 Since National Reconciliation Week, staff have also been gathering to go 'All In', exploring First Nations perspectives through Nunga Screen films led by First Nations storytellers.

📖 Our next reconciliation learning theme is 'Books and Literature', where we will explore First Nations authors, storytellers and perspectives.

These experiences have provided valuable opportunities to deepen our understanding, reflect on our shared history, and continue our reconciliation journey. We acknowledge First Nations peoples and their land that we gather, work and live on.
