⚠️ Bird Flu detection in Wynn Vale ⚠️

A lot of people would have heard about the H5 strain of bird flu lately and how it had spread to every continent on the globe, except Australia.

Unfortunately, it was just a matter of time before bird flu arrived in Australia and the latest advice shows there have now been 147 confirmed positive detections in South Australia.

An additional 13 suspect cases have been detected, including in an Ibis from Wynn Vale.

The samples have been sent to the CSIRO’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) for testing and we’ll know for sure in the next few days.

I know this might come as a bit of a shock for locals who - like me - love spending time around Wynn Vale Dam.

Please continue to avoid touching sick or dead birds and other wildlife. Record what you see. Report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

🌳 Watch this space for beautiful native woody grasslands!! 🌳
Celebrating National Tree Day with a solid few hours of planting at the Highbury Aqueduct Reserve, revegetating parts of the reserve which were impacted by Giant Pine Scale. Stunner of a day for it!
Thanks to the National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia team for such a well organised event 👏🏼

☀️ What glorious Winter sunshine we have been treated to this last week!
This Hardenbergia "Happy Wanderer" has the most gorgeous winter blooms and the bees are just LOVING it at the moment 🐝

Hardenbergias are native plants that are endemic to our area so a perfect choice for some winter colour in the garden 🌱🪻
You can spot them in some of Tea Tree Gully's parks and gardens too!

In case you missed it, Dr Mark from Tea Tree Gully Veterinary Hospital has been reviewing our local dog parks and dog-friendly spaces! 🐕🐾🐕‍🦺

This particular one is for Golden Grove Dog Park, but if you head over to the TTG Vet FB page there's plenty more content to check out. 👀

Thanks Dr Mark!

🎙️ PUBLICATION OF COUNCIL MEETING AUDIO 🎙️

An update on my motion regarding publishing of council meeting audio.
The motion was accepted, huzzah!

However, I was unfortunately not able to be there.

In my absence, Cr Bernie Keane moved the motion and Cr Donna Proleta seconded, then both voted against.

The motion lost 5-2.

Deputy Mayor Kristianne Foreman and Cr Rob Unger spoke in favour of the motion, nobody spoke against.

I would like to thank Cr Kristianne Foreman for seeking to move the motion to the next meeting in my absence, and to both Cr Foreman and Cr Unger for speaking in support.

The motion was intended to start a conversation about improved transparency and accessibility for our community. Given nobody spoke against, I am unable to provide any additional context as to why the vote went the way it did.

It was mentioned at the meeting that the community is already able to access the meeting audio via Freedom of Information request. I have put in some Questions on Notice for the next Council Meeting regarding this.
