In our Spring 2026 edition, we head south with photographer David Neilson and 'Antarctica is Melting', revisit the extraordinary arrival of USS Enterprise and 5,500 sailors in Hobart in 1976, and uncover the story of Captain Carl Anton Larsen’s ambitious but ultimately abandoned plan for a whaling base on Macquarie Island.

Here's a group of good-looking fellas. They're Navy men from HMAS FALIE, been foraging in the jungle of New Guinea in 1944. My thoughts go to their usual diet onboard (tinned meat probably SPAM, root vegies) what joy to find banana and coconut. ***CALLING descendants of the men who served on HMAS FALIE in Sydney Harbour or in the SW Pacific during WWII , or other merchant ships - we want you to get in touch. We're creating a documentary with a grant from the DVA - Salute their Service - and need stories, photos, etc. before the end of this year so that filming can begin 2027.
I'm sure the war wasn't all fun like this photo implies, we've heard of the health problems from living in the tropics, malaria etc, and lasting effects. we want to know more and recognise their service.
