Socialist Alliance Adelaide

Socialist Alliance Adelaide Adelaide branch of the Socialist Alliance. Join Today! https://socialist-alliance.org/join Find out more about Resistance here.

The Socialist Alliance stands for socialism — a democratic society run by and for working people, not the greedy, destructive capitalist elite that now rules. We put people and the planet before profit, the millions before the billionaires. We believe that a society based on this principle is entirely realistic, and necessary if humanity and the planet are to survive. We believe that in order to b

ring about such a society, we have to replace the institutions that protect and defend this ruling elite (such as parliament, government administration, police and the military) with institutions under the democratic control of ordinary people. In other words we need revolutionary change, brought about with the active participation of the majority of people. Since 2001, members of the Socialist Alliance have been active in campaigns for workers’ rights, for women’s rights, against unconventional gas mining and for environmental protection and justice, for civil liberties, justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, for refugees and against racism, for the rights of g**s, le****ns, trans and intersex people, for equal marriage rights, and for international solidarity with the oppressed. Socialist Alliance members are recognised leaders in many of these movements. The Socialist Alliance is made up of people who, like millions of others, are sick of being ruled by the warmongers, racists, union-bashers, and capitalist politicians. The Socialist Alliance is a registered political party and participates in elections. We have two elected local councillors — Sam Wainwright in Fremantle (Western Australia) and Sue Bolton in Moreland (Melbourne, Victoria). The Socialist Alliance stands candidates to give a voice to working-class struggle and to meet the need for working-class political representation. Socialist Alliance representatives use their positions to initiate and support community campaigns, workers’ struggles and social movements, fight reactionary policies and promote the mass campaigns that can defeat the attacks on jobs and living standards. Socialist Alliance candidates who are elected to political office will only take the wage of an average worker. Under capitalism, young people face special discrimination and political exclusion. The Socialist Alliance seeks to involve young people and encourage them to lead the struggle for socialism. Resistance: Young Socialist Alliance is the youth wing of Socialist Alliance. Formed by young radicals, it has its own elected leadership and provides a space for young members of the Socialist Alliance to organise politically, network, educate themselves and take action. All Socialist Alliance members aged 26 and under are eligible for membership. We believe that the majority of people, by acting in their workplaces, on their campuses, in their communities, and on the streets, can develop the power to create a just and environmentally sustainable alternative to profit-driven capitalism. Pauline Hanson’s One Nation has won its first lower house seat and has been surging in the polls, trading on racism and discontent with the political establishment.

Join this public meeting to discuss how we stop the rise of the far right and put forward people-first alternatives that challenge the political establishment.

Hear from Socialist Alliance organisers Jonathan Strauss and Markela Panegyres on their efforts to build socialist politics in regional Queensland and South Australia.

Jonathan has recently returned from attending the First International Anti-Fascist Conference in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in March, where 4000 activists from more than 40 countries attended to discuss organising against fascism, the far right and the increasingly aggressive imperialist turn under capitalism.

Markela recently campaigned in the South Australian state election, where One Nation got their best ever result.

Rachel is the Socialist Alliance candidate for Heffron and is leading the fight against Labor’s demolition of public housing at Waterloo.

The meeting will be held at the Resistance Centre in Gadigal Country/Sydney, at 22 Mountain St, Ultimo NSW, and via Zoom.

The Pirltawardli Collective acknowledges National Reconciliation Week as a time of reflection across this Country, but for us, it is also a time to speak truth.

Reconciliation may hold meaning for some, yet it cannot sit comfortably where our rights continue to be overlooked and our Country is treated as a commodity. Kaurna Yerta is not an abstract concept or a parcel of land to be reshaped at will. It is living, breathing Country, woven with the spirit, knowledge, and responsibility of our Old People, and carried forward through us.

The Adelaide Park Lands are not empty spaces. They are cultural landscapes. They hold the presence of those who came before us, including Ityamaiitpinna, Mullaburkawirra, and Kadlitpinna, who shared their knowledge with Colonel Light during the establishment of the city. That sharing was not surrender. It was an act grounded in cultural law, with an expectation of mutual respect and ongoing recognition.

What we continue to witness is the erosion of that understanding. Legislation is weakened. Decisions are made without meaningful engagement. Government authority is elevated above the enduring rights and responsibilities of Kaurna people. Reconciliation cannot be spoken into existence while these realities persist.

The Pirltawardli Collective stands firm in our responsibility to Kaurna Yarta. Our connection is not historical, it is continuous. Our sovereignty was never ceded. Our voices will not be silenced.

This week, we call not just for reflection, but for accountability, for truth-telling that leads to action, and for respect that is lived, not just spoken.

No new oil and gas! A short report on Extinction Rebellion South Australia’s protests outside the Australian Energy Producers conference last week.

Extinction Rebellion SA organised a series of creative protests outside the Australian Energy Producers conference to protest the push for more fossil fuels in a climate emergency. Markela Panegyres reports.

'Rachel Evans, another spokesperson for Action for Public Housing and the Socialist Alliance candidate for the seat of Heffron, said the destruction is “social vandalism”.

“More than 67,000 people are on the waiting list for public housing. Over 150,000 people are homeless across this continent and, in NSW, 37,000 people. One million properties are empty every night and the government is set to fail in its Housing Australia Future Fund target of 55,000 new social and affordable homes by 2029,” Evans said.'
