A powerful reminder of what can be achieved when communities lead with knowledge, care and connection to Country.

Indigenous rangers from the Bibbul Ngarma Aboriginal Association have rediscovered the Balstonโ€™s pygmy perch in the Perth Hills, a rare native fish once thought to be locally extinct.

Led by the BoorYul-Bah-Bilya Program, the rediscovery highlights the strength of Indigenous-led conservation, bringing together cultural knowledge and modern science to restore and protect vital ecosystems.

This is a testament to the impact Indigenous leadership has on Country, preserving biodiversity and fostering future environmental stewardship.
