The Torrens Lake has been reopened after latest testing confirmed safe levels of waterborne bacteria.

This will enable City of Adelaide staff and contractors to begin removing large amounts of debris and litter which have accumulated in the ornamental structure.

Most of the material was washed into the River Torrens / Karrawirra Parri following recent heavy rainfall events.

The initial stage of the clean-up operation will involve the removal of litter floating on the lakeโ€™s surface. It is due to begin next week.

The lake and parts of the River Torrens were closed in July due to elevated enterococci levels.

Its reopening will allow rowing and kayaking to resume along with commercial operations such as Captain Jolleyโ€™s Paddleboats and BBQ Buoys.

The Popeye cruising boats have continued to operate during the closure.

Flashback Friday: House โ€“ Brougham Place

The second residence from the left in the photograph was built in 1907 for Sir Charles Henry Goode, one of Adelaideโ€™s leading merchants and philanthropists. Goode arrived in South Australia in 1849 and, with his business partner Thomas Good, established a soft goods business that grew into Goode, Durrant & Co. Their partnership extended beyond business โ€” they became brothers-in-law after each married the otherโ€™s sister.

Best known for his charitable work, Goode helped establish organisations including the Royal Institution for the Blind, the Adelaide Childrenโ€™s Hospital and the YMCA. He was knighted in 1912 in recognition of his public service.

Although the architect has not been definitively identified, the residence is a notable example of Federation-period domestic architecture, combining picturesque massing with classically derived detailing.

The house retains a high level of its original character, including features such as leaded stained-glass windows and finely detailed interior finishes that reflect the quality of elite domestic design in the period.

We want your feedback so the decisions being made are informed by the people they affect.

City of Adelaide has been asked to provide feedback on the proposed Adelaide Circuit Redevelopment, and you should be part of that conversation.

Whether you live, visit, study, or work in our city, your experience will be shaped by this proposal. By having your say on the Adelaide Circuit Redevelopment, your voice will be brought to Council's consultations with the State Government.

The State Government has released a proposed design and is seeking their own feedback on the project. Our consultation is separate from this and focuses on what directly impacts our community.

Once collated, your feedback will help inform Council's response to the State Government.
