birdflu.sa.gov.au serves as a central hub of information on H5 bird flu in South Australia, bringing together the latest updates, advice and resources for primary producers, veterinarians, wildlife carers and the community.

The website is a one-stop-shop source of information from experts including SA Health, the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA), and the Department for Environment and Water (DEW).

The website complements the 24/7 Emergency Animal Disease Hotline (1800 675 888), helping to ensure South Australians can access accurate information and advice when they need it.

This August, Park of the Month is heading to Naracoorte Caves National Park, about 350km from Adelaide on South Australia's Limestone Coast.

There’s so much to explore both above and below ground in the park; From learning about the cave’s critically endangered residents, the southern bent-wing bat, to exploring the incredible fossil records that date back several ice ages and the arrival of humans in the area.

✨💚Adelaide is shining green for World Ranger Day ✨💚

Tonight, several Adelaide landmarks including Adelaide Oval, Parliament House and the footbridge are shining green for World Ranger Day (31 July) and in honour of the people who care for our parks.

Rangers are on the ground every day, managing fire, controlling pests, restoring habitat and welcoming visitors.

Their work helps protect South Australia’s most precious places, now and for the future.

Happy World Ranger Day! 💚

Today, we celebrate the dedicated rangers who work every day to protect the parks, wildlife and cultural heritage places we all enjoy.

This year’s theme, ‘Rangers: Guardians of a Changing Planet’, recognises the vital role rangers play in responding to rapid and complex environmental change.

From climate extremes to biodiversity loss, rangers continue to adapt, care, and advocate for our natural and cultural landscapes, helping safeguard them for future generations.

On behalf of everyone at National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia, thank you to rangers across our state and beyond.

Right now, southern right and humpback whales are passing through our waters on route to their northern Australian breeding grounds.

Whale season is here! 🐋

From May to October, Southern right and humpback whales migrate along South Australia’s coastline, with peak sightings in July and August.

To help protect these incredible animals, we’ve partnered with to improve how we detect, monitor and respond to marine mammal entanglements.

New equipment and specialised training will help officers respond quickly and safely across coastal and offshore Australian Marine Parks.

If you spot an entangled whale, dolphin or seal:
⚠️ Keep a safe distance
⚠️ Do not attempt to free it
⚠️ Contact your local National Parks and Wildlife Service office immediately at parks.sa.gov.au/contact-us
⚠️ Stay nearby, if safe to do so, until trained officers arrive

Together, we can help keep marine life safe this whale season. 💙
