It’s been a busy and meaningful National Reconciliation Week for KWY staff.

On Wednesday morning, staff attended the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast, a powerful opportunity to come together, share a feed, have a yarn, and continue the important conversations around reconciliation.

Yesterday, our team was proud to be part of the Rec in the West community event, connecting with community and joining in a day that always brings people together.

As an ACCO, we know reconciliation is strengthened through genuine allyship; by listening, learning, showing up, and taking action alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

This year’s theme, “All In”, reminds us that reconciliation isn’t something we watch from the sidelines. It’s something we actively commit to in our work, our words, and the choices we make every day.

We were also proud to see KWY CEO Craig Rigney attend Junction Australia's Lunch and Yarn event, speaking on the allyship panel discussion ahead of the unveiling of Junction’s Allyship Statement.

Reconciliation doesn’t live in a single week or moment. It’s built through everyday actions, conversations, relationships, and ongoing commitment.

So this week, and every week, let’s be All In 🖤💛❤️

We’re looking for digital artwork that reflects community, hope, healing and connection. Open to Aboriginal and non-Indigenous artists, emerging and established creatives are all encouraged to apply.

KWY Men’s Cultural Healing Camp

A culturally safe space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men aged 18+ to connect, yarn, strengthen culture and support healing.

The 3-night camp includes workshops, yarning circles and activities focused on culture, family and wellbeing. Accommodation and meals are provided.

KWY is proud to have once again sponsored the Port Lincoln First Nations Round at Mallee Park Football Club Inc. for 2026 🖤💛❤️

It was a deadly day of family activities, football, culture and community coming together to celebrate connection both on and off the field.

The day showcased the high standard of country Football, with a close game right up to the final siren with Mallee Park coming away with a well fought win.

A big thank you to Mallee Park Football Club for hosting the day and to Wayback Football & Sporting Club for being part of this ongoing partnership.

We would also like to acknowledge the tireless work behind the scenes by Becky Miller and Jess Chandler, and all others involved to bring this event together.

Our CEO Craig Rigney was honoured to present the Player of the Match medals for the B Grade and A Grade teams, recognising the talent and sportsmanship shown throughout the day.

Yarn with Us: Help Keep Aboriginal Kids Safe, Strong, Connected, and at Home

Are you:
- An Aboriginal community member with lived experience of the child protection system OR
- A non-Aboriginal carer or parent of an Aboriginal child/young person with lived or living experience of the system?
- Residing in South Australia?
- Aged 18 years or over?

Yarn with us! Share your voice on what’s needed to reduce Aboriginal children and young people in Out-of-Home Care in South Australia.
KWY’s Wilto Willo (“Spring Star”) research project is creating safe spaces for yarning, storytelling, and sharing ideas that will help shape culturally responsive, healing-centred supports to keep our kids safe and with community.

What’s involved:
- Four, three-hour Aboriginal-led Yarning Circle sessions, with an additional, optional hour for lunch.
- Receive a $150 voucher per yarning session you attend
- Catering and transport provided

Locations & Dates: April to August.
Tauondi College (9, 17, 23, 30 April), Christies Downs Community House, Wardli Youth Centre, Kaurna Cultural Living Centre, KWY Office (Port Augusta), and Mallee Park Football Club (Port Lincoln)

Dates for other locations will be announced at a later time.

What we’ll yarn about:
- How the system’s been pushing you around
- How you and your family keep strong
- What gets in the way of families staying together
- What support services need to do better
- Working together to act against the system

We want to hear your story, wisdom, and ideas for change. Together, we can make sure our kids grow up safe, strong, and at home, surrounded by community.

That’s a wrap on KWY’s 2026 National Summit. We’ve covered some huge themes. Decolonising systems. Racial trauma. Children’s voices and generational healing.

10 keynote presentations
Countless stories of Blak Excellence, of therapeutic responses and of Aboriginal-led responses to supporting our families.

We couldn’t have done this without our ripper team of KWY staff who have been buzzing around behind the scenes to make sure the Summit runs smoothly.

An honourable mention to our very own Stevie Weine who has been the driving force behind the summit, to Paulo and Vini, our IT team who ensured seamless tech across all 3 days of the Summit, and of course to our CEO Craig Rigney for his leadership and vision in creating a space for innovation.

KWY are privileged to welcome back Stan Grant. Journalist, author and proud Wiradjuri, Kamilaroi and Dharrawal man, Stan asked the audience to consider identity in fast-changing times. A fearless advocate for First Nations rights, he spoke with courage, compassion and moral clarity.

Commissioner Sue‑Anne Hunter, a Wurundjeri and Ngurai Illum Wurrung woman, made history as the very first National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People.

With decades of experience in child and family services and truth‑telling leadership, the Commissioner shared a presentation on championing rights‑based, transformative approaches that support healing, safety and wellbeing for Aboriginal children and young people.
