🌏 Welcoming our newest international students!

On Friday 14 August, IES welcomed newly arrived international students from South Australian Government Schools at the Term 3 International Student Welcome and Induction.

The event helped students learn more about life and study in South Australia, connect with other international students and discover the services and organisations available to support them throughout their journey.

A special highlight was the attendance of the Hon Lucy Hood MP, Minister for Education, Training and Skills, who officially welcomed students to South Australia and South Australian Government Schools.

Students also enjoyed interactive cultural and community booths covering Australian culture, sport, health, safety and support services.

Thank you to all the homestay families, schools, staff, volunteers and partner organisations who help make South Australia a welcoming home for international students. 💙

International Education Services (IES) recently hosted its annual Year 12 Transition Event, bringing together current Year 12 international students, alumni and community partners to help students prepare for their next chapter beyond school.

Designed to support students as they consider their future pathways, the event provided an opportunity to hear firsthand from former international students who have successfully transitioned to university, employment and life in South Australia. Alumni shared their experiences, offering practical insights into higher education, accommodation, visa considerations and building a life after secondary school.

Students also connected with representatives from StudyAdelaide, Scots Church Community Connections and Baptistcare SA, who showcased the support services, volunteering opportunities and community programs available to international students.

International Education Services extends its sincere thanks to our alumni, partner organisations and school staff whose support helped make the event another success!

We look forward to continuing to equip international students with the knowledge, confidence and connections they need for future success!

During the mid-year school holidays, a group of our international students volunteered with , helping to prepare delicious pasties and sausage rolls for Adelaide community centres supporting people experiencing homelessness, escaping family and domestic violence, living in temporary accommodation, and experiencing food insecurity.

The day was filled with teamwork, enthusiasm and plenty of hard work, with our students impressing everyone through their energy, dedication and willingness to give back to the community.

Volunteering provides valuable opportunities for students to build connections, develop new skills and make a meaningful contribution to the community while studying in South Australia.

We're incredibly proud of their kindness, generosity and community spirit. ❤️

School Sport SA International Students Sports Day

Over 240 international students from 14 South Australian government schools recently participated in a School Sport SA, International Students Sports Day at the State Basketball Centre.

The event provided students with the opportunity to try new sports, develop teamwork skills and build friendships in a fun and inclusive environment.

Students participated in activities including pickleball, golf, lawn bowls, fencing, handball and basketball, while connecting with international students from other schools.

A highlight of the day was a visit from Australian beach volleyball player Solly Bushby through the Olympics Unleashed program by Australian Olympic Team. Solly shared his sporting journey and spoke about resilience, goal setting and overcoming challenges, inspiring students to pursue their goals.

Adelaide 36ers development squad player, Magok Manyang, was also there to share his basketball skills and tips with the students.

Feedback from schools highlighted the value of the day in creating meaningful sporting and social experiences for international students.

Thank you to School Sport SA, the Adelaide 36ers and all activity providers for supporting a memorable day for students.
