🚒 Urban Training

It’s always a great opportunity when we get to train alongside our neighbouring Brigades! A big thank you to Burnside CFS for inviting our members along to Adelaide Station for a great night of urban firefighting training.

The session focused on:
🔹 Forced door entry techniques
🔹 Ladder handling
🔹 First-arrival urban attack

Training alongside other Brigades is a great way to share knowledge, build confidence and strengthen the skills we rely on when responding together.

AFAC 2026🔥

Some of our Athelstone CFS members were fortunate enough to attend Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) in Melbourne, joining emergency service personnel from across Australia, New Zealand and beyond.

AFAC was a fantastic opportunity to share experiences, collaborate with others, learn about new ideas and technologies and build valuable national networks.

We’re proud of our members for making the most of these opportunities and bringing their knowledge back to the brigade and local community. 🚒

Today was our station and truck maintenance day, with members lending a hand to clean our equipment and facilities 🚒🧽

Many hands make light work, and it was great to finish with a well-earned feed and a catch-up. Thanks to everyone who helped out!

🚒 Structure Fire Training 🚒

Last night’s training saw our crews respond to a simulated fire alarm at the station.

On arrival, crews were met with smoke issuing from a shed. Following a thorough size-up, firefighters made entry and located three casualties alongside a BBQ, which had been identified as the ignition source as part of the scenario.

The exercise provided an excellent opportunity for members to practise first-arriving procedures, dynamic risk assessment, search and rescue techniques, and fire control in a realistic environment.

Regular, realistic training like this helps ensure our members are well prepared to respond safely and effectively when the call comes.👏🚒

Wednesday night training 🔥
Tonight’s training saw our crews working through a range of practical scenarios to build and maintain their skills.

One crew focused on effective radio communications, while putting their creativity and teamwork to the test by using the road crash rescue equipment and tools to recreate an object using cribbing and only the hydraulic spreaders.

Meanwhile, the second crew were at Thorndon Park, where they practised casualty rescue and extraction techniques using the playground equipment to simulate real rescue scenarios.

The Athelstone CFS would like to thank
Burton Demolition for their support in providing access to soon to be demolished properties for training purposes.

These properties provide invaluable opportunities for our firefighters to train in a variety of realistic scenarios and environments, helping to build skills and confidence.

Smokey the Koala visited Thorndon Park on Sunday to say hello to the families of Athelstone CFS as they are unable to celebrate at Christmas because of the fire danger.

No fire danger so Smokey was relaxed. The atmosphere was warm and the families getting together made for a delightful afternoon.

Today is International Firefighters' Day.

It is a day to honour the courage and sacrifice of firefighters worldwide who risk their lives to protect communities. It commemorates those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and thank current personnel for their dedication.

The Athelstone Brigade is a group of selfless volunteers from our local community who always answer the call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year when needed most 🔥 🚒

Tonight’s training took us to the brand-new ambulance station in Campbelltown 🚑

A big thank you to Jayden for taking the time to show our crew around the fantastic new facilities and giving us a walkthrough of an ambulance to help members familiarise for when we have to work together at an incident.

We really appreciate the opportunity and a great insight into the work our ambulance colleagues do every day! 🚑 💚
