From TikTok football commentary to a weekly slot on community radio 🎙️

Scotty Lamont has built a 26,000-strong TikTok following talking footy, and now interviews AFL players every Friday on Radio Port Phillip FM, all through Wallara's Media Pathway program. Station president John Shore says the change in him has been huge: "He's not shy anymore and he can talk about football with his head underwater."

More than 100 people with intellectual disability take part in the program each year, creating real content for real audiences, not just training.

For many adults with intellectual disability, MyPath Day Options at Minda is more than a program, it's a place to build skills, confidence and real friendships. Across two Adelaide locations, participants explore everything from pottery and cooking to budgeting, travel and employment pathways, all shaped around their own goals.

MyPath participant Trevor, a regular in the Pottery program, recently had his work featured at the Art on Partridge exhibition. "Coming to MyPath is one of the highlights of my week... I'm at my happiest when I'm here," he said.

A new NDIS bill is moving through parliament with no modelling and no published plan for what it will actually change.

We asked Disability Discrimination Commissioner Rosemary Kayess what's at stake. Her answer was blunt: people living with disability are paying for budget repair "literally... through the rolling back of supports, their ability to participate in the community, and the narrowing of definitions."

Australia's first National Stigma and Discrimination Report Card is out, and the numbers are stark: 70% of people with mental health challenges have faced discrimination. 68% said the stigma was harder to deal with than their condition itself.

People living with disabilities face an unemployment rate nearly double the general population, but 23-year-old Brendan Wiseman is bucking that trend. After joining Wallara Australia's supported employment program, he's become a skilled barista, serving coffee, building confidence, and connecting with his community in ways his family never thought possible.

"Before Wallara, we had no idea what the future would look like. Now he has confidence, social skills, and is part of the community," says his mum, Trudy.

Imagine raising a complaint about your disability provider, and having no one else to turn to while you wait for it to be sorted out.

That's the reality for many NDIS participants in remote parts of Australia, like the Kimberley region, where advocates say serious complaints haven't always been dealt with quickly. Since 2024, over 55 complaints have been lodged there — but only 5 compliance notices issued.

The NDIS promises "choice and control." But what does that really mean if there's only one provider in town?
