If you live in or close to the Port Adelaide area, here is some important information

THREAT REDUCED – Port Adelaide
Time issued: 6:46pm, Thursday 6 August 2026

The emergency evacuation message for the Port Adelaide area is no longer in effect, however an Advice message remains in place while emergency services continue to monitor conditions and assess the site overnight.

While conditions have improved considerably, people in the immediate area should continue to stay informed and exercise caution, particularly if they have existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.

Burning sulphur can produce irritating fumes that may affect the eyes, nose, throat and respiratory system. Although smoke impacts have reduced, people who experience symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, eye irritation or headaches should seek medical advice. Anyone experiencing severe breathing difficulties, significant eye irritation or other serious symptoms should call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

As a precaution, residents near the incident are encouraged to:
• Keep doors and windows closed if they notice any residual odour or smoke.
• Use air conditioning on recirculate mode where available.
• Bring pets inside if smoke or odours are detected.
• Monitor family members, particularly young children, older people and those with existing health conditions.
• Avoid the immediate area around the incident and follow any directions from emergency services personnel.

There is an evacuation zone. Anyone located within the boundary of the Port River, Port River Expressway, Hanson Road and Club Road extending to the Port River should leave immediately. See comment section for image of updated exclusion zone.

Do not enter the area.

The MFS is responding to a structure fire which is burning sulphur and producing large volumes of smoke.

There is a 1 km evacuation zone. Anyone located within 1 km of Moonta Road, Port Adelaide should leave immediately.

Do not enter the area.

The second largest appliance in the CFS fleet is State Logistics 3 - the large hook lift truck.

Our team has a number of hook lift operators who deploy this asset across the state, mainly to support air operations.

Here it is delivering a mixed load including retardant for air operations during the recent Deep Creek fire.

Night time....day time....

Our crews were hard at it again last night. Due to the dynamic situation with the Deep Creek Fire, we moved the rapid deployment communications trailer to a safer spot.

Operating in the dark creates challenges however we did a good job!

Today our crews are back at it again. A few technical problems last night meant that a second visit was required today for the Deep Creek fire.

Crews undertook a triage of the location of the rapid deployment communications trailer to ensure its safety and measure its effectiveness.

They also did some technical trouble shooting on the portable automated weather stations or PAWS units they deployed last night. These allow frequent and reliable weather readings to be sent to the incident management team beyond the regular BOM weather station readings.

In sub par and fairly windy conditions our Brigade was this evening tasked to the Deep Creek fire near Cape Jervis.

Our crews were tasked to set up 2 portable weather station units as well as the rapid deployment communications trailer.

Operating in the dark in unfamiliar territory does increase the risk associated with our taskings however is part of the job.

Shout out to members who were staffing the Bushfire Hotline at the same time- monster effort from all!

The little truck that could...

State Logistics 8 has been with us only a couple of years but we have managed to double it's mileage in that time.

Previously Seaford Air Ops appliance it now serves as a general Logistics vehicle able to carry between 2 and 4 pallets depending on weight, it is often used to deploy foam, retardant, gel, drinking water or even hoses and equipment to the front line to assist operational activities.

It might not be fast or overly comfortable but it is reliable and easy to drive!

Another productive day (and week) for our members.

A crew of 4 today deployed equipment to Berri to assist with the efforts on combating the ongoing fire on Katarapko Island in the Riverland.

Earlier in the week with the elevated fire dangers our team staffed the Bushfire Information Hotline, a very important role in community engagement and providing public information.

As we have seen with recent fires across the state and country, the current dry conditions continue to increase the risk of fires and potential impacts to communities.

With hot and windy conditions forecast across the state this weekend and into early next week, there is a heightened risk of fires starting and spreading quickly.

Our CFS members are ready to respond over the weekend but we need you to do your part. Even if your district is not in ban today, you need to be prepared, stay informed, and where possible don't do any activities that could spark a fire.
