Animal Justice Party South Australia

Animal Justice Party South Australia Animal Justice Party South Australia. The only political party dedicated to ending animal cruelty. That’s where we come in.

Animal cruelty is an unfortunate and all-too-common feature of Australian society that must come to an end. Several non-government organisations have been tackling animal welfare issues at ground level from various perspectives to-date, however there’s an immediate urgency to bring much-needed influence to this agenda from a government policy dimension. The Animal Justice Party has been establishe

d to give voice to those who have none – to pursue the vital issues of animal protection through the Australian Parliamentary System by:

• Encouraging the adoption of animal-friendly policies by other political parties
• Demonstrating that voters care about animal issues by contesting elections
• Educating the electorate about the animal policies of candidates from other political parties. What we aim to do:

• The Animal Justice Party will actively campaign at a government policy level against animal cruelty atrocities relating to wildlife destruction; factory farming; animal transportation; companion and domestic animals, pet animals and the use of animals for sport and entertainment.
• We’ll advocate the toughening of animal protection laws; an increase in penalties for convicted animal abusers; the regulation and restriction in the sale and use of pets, and enhance education in greater awareness and appreciation of the needs of animals. We believe that through the formation of the Animal Justice Party, and with the support of the many like-minded, concerned animal lovers (and voters) throughout Australia, real and urgent changes to the way in which animals are treated can be made. Animal Justice Party is continuously striving to improve the lives of animals, and to achieve that, we rely on the generosity of our supporters. The financial year ends at the end of this month, so now is a great time to donate to Animal Justice Party.

This year, we contested the state election thanks to supporters like you. Your donations will continue to make a difference through supporting our campaigns to influence positive changes for animals and building up the Party until the next election.

We lack large corporate donors or public funding, and running a political party costs a tidy sum. We have bills to pay for the storage unit, website, bookkeeping, auditing and many other expenses. That’s before we can allocate money to marketing and election costs. Can you chip in to help?

No matter the size, every donation helps. Donations of up to $1,500 per year may be tax deductible. Donation link in the comments.

🌟💜 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds (SA) and Greyhound Welfare Initiative .

After adopting her rescue greyhound Maggie, Elle Trahair became a passionate advocate for greyhounds still trapped in the racing industry. Today, she volunteers as the South Australian Director of the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds, campaigning for stronger protections and a future beyond greyhound racing.

Funds raised through our Walk for Animals, that we hosted in May 17, supported the Coalition’s work (alongside Cat Adoption Foundation SA and Animal Justice Party SA). 💜

Thank you Elle, for the work you do, and to Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds (SA) - to advocate for greyhounds living safe and healthy lives.

We're pleased to acknowledge that Tamasyn Ramsay-Grounds has been appointed to Southern Grampians Shire Council following a recent countback after a vacancy.

We wish Tamasyn all the best in her new role, serving as an independent councillor, and look forward to animals in Gariwerd having a voice represented in local decision-making 💜🐾

Last week, some Animal Justice Party members were proud to stand in solidarity with the community at Stop the Chop: Never Again, organised by Adelaide Park Lands Association, to speak up for Adelaide’s wildlife and Park Lands. 💚🐾

Following the loss of a reported 585 trees at Possum Park / Pirltawardli through the North Adelaide Golf Course redevelopment, countless animals have lost habitat, shelter and safety. While many are still grieving that destruction, the focus for action has now turned to protecting Victoria Park and the Eastern Park Lands.

We felt honoured to stand with everyone who came along, brought signs, raised their voices and stood up for animals, nature, as well as the Kaurna people, for whom these lands hold special cultural significance.

A physical petition is now underway, with organisers aiming to collect 10,000 signatures to deliver to Parliament (see comments for details) by July 31. We were thrilled to be able to sign it in person. Thank you to Lead Petitions Crs Maher and Snape.

This rally took place on Kaurna Land, on Friday, May 22.

What an incredible day at Walk for the Animals! 🐾💜

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Pinky Flat last Sunday and helped make the event such a success. It was wonderful to see so many people and their furry friends come together for a fun, compassionate community event.

From the parade of dogs led by special rescue cat Landon in his pram, to the plant-based BBQ, homemade cakes, raffle prizes and stalls, the atmosphere throughout the day was amazing.

Thanks to your support, the event raised more than $3,000, with the $1,200 from ticket sales being split between AJP, Cat Adoption Foundation and Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds. 💜

Thank you as well to our amazing volunteers,, stallholders and everyone who helped make the day possible. We’re so grateful to everyone who attended, donated and supported the event! 🐶🐱🌱

This event took place on Kaurna Land, on Sunday, May 17.

Yesterday, one of our Animal Justice Party volunteers returned to Possum Park / Pirltawardli to document the impact caused by the North Adelaide Golf Course redevelopment.

It appears all 585 trees have now been cut down, transforming parts of this wildlife habitat into a construction zone.

This Friday, May 22, community groups and concerned South Australians will again gather on the steps of Parliament House to send a clear message, in Stop the Chop: Never Again.

We will not stay silent while Adelaide’s Park Lands are destroyed piece by piece. Not all of our precious wildlife can just “go somewhere else.

Will you stand with us?

Thank you to the Pirltawardli Collective for organising Sunday’s peaceful community gathering at Possum Park/Pirltawardli - and for sharing culture, knowledge, and healing with the wider community on Kaurna Country. 🌿

After a difficult and emotional week for many fighting to protect Possum Park/Pirltawardl, the event created space for people to come together, listen, learn, and reflect. Messages that stayed with us included the importance of being strong, not angry - and learning the true history of the Park Lands.

The gathering fostered a powerful sense of community, through storytelling, cultural activities, and conversations about how we can continue standing together to protect wildlife and Country.

Some of our Animal Justice Party volunteers were grateful to attend and stand in solidarity with the Pirltawardli Collective and the community.

Thank you to elders and all speakers for welcoming everyone and sharing your culture of valuing nature with us.

Looking to join the movement to preserve the Park Lands? Another event is listed in the comments.

Chainsaws again rang out at Possum Park / Pirltawardli yesterday.

An Animal Justice Party SA volunteer was at the park, witnessing some of day six of tree destruction for the North Adelaide Golf Course redevelopment.

Despite Premier Peter Malinauskas saying the works would likely be finished by Friday, clearing continued again.

We stood alongside concerned community members who gathered to bear witness, document the tree felling and hold signs of protest.

It continues to be confronting to hear the loud cracks of giant mature trees falling, and to watch distressed birds overhead vocalising, returning to former nesting and feeding areas now reduced to debris. In a quiet moment, we watched a lone noisy miner hop through the branches of a felled tree, seemingly searching for something it could no longer find.

With large crowds going through War Memorial Drive for the football at Adelaide Oval, some drivers honked in support, while others on foot stopped to watch. As chainsaws and cranes continued behind the fencing, chants of “stop the chop” and “always was, always will be Aboriginal land” echoed across the site, through community members on loudspeakers.

We are grateful to those who stand in solidarity with our wildlife, ecosystems, and shared green space - and to the community organisers bringing people together (either visibly or behind the scenes).
A community gathering by Preserving Pirltawardli will be today May 17 at 2pm, with community invited to sit in support. Details in comments.
