After 23 years with the City of Adelaide, Steve is departing and leaving big shoes to fill.

I've had the pleasure of working with Steve for almost 8 years. He is committed and outcome driven and there are rare circumstances where he has no solution or a referral to a person with a solution!

The City of Adelaide community is a better place because of dedicated staff like Steve - he will be missed!

Great to catch up with Lee Cumberlidge and Rachael Azzopardi at the Illuminate Adelaide closing night celebration. For six years now Illuminate Adelaide has changed the city’s landscape (temporarily) and brought record number of visitors into the CBD in winter, when it’s most needed. Their light shows and performances bring our city to life in winter and like many South Australians I look forward to seeing the program each and every year!

At the 2026 annual SA Architects Institute awards night, I was really glad to see a project, which was once controversial, get recognised for outstanding design. On the night, the AIA national president David Wagner said “Great architecture enriches lives” and this project is a prime example of that.

This year’s winner of both the City of Adelaide Prize for Design Excellence and People’s Choice Award was the Adelaide Aquatic Centre in North Adelaide (Kauwingka - Place of Water) - designed by JPE in collaboration with Warren and Mahoney and Karl Winda Telfer.

Congratulations to the entire team behind this project.

Great to attend the SA Australian Institute of Architects annual awards and see so many old friends and former colleagues. This was my 8th year attending and as always, insightful to hear from industry leaders.

Awards Director Dave Bickmore on the night said “Delivering great architecture has never been more complex” and I couldn’t agree more. In a world where value management is the norm in most projects and financing has become more intricate and diligent, delivering great architectural outcomes has become more challenging.

I had the great pleasure of attending the grand opening of Hotel Panorama last night. A stunning venue with jaw dropping views of the hills and the city. Congratulations to the Hurley Group.

Many would know this familiar face - Flavia Tata Nardini from Fleet Space Technologies. I first met Flavia around 10 years ago - she was kicking goals back then and after a quick tour of their new facilities at Adelaide Airport, I can see that she’s kicking even bigger goals nowadays!

I had the privilege of speaking to the workforce at Fleet earlier this year for International Women’s Day. The theme for this year is balancing the scales. I spoke about how imbalanced scales in some situations can lead to barriers and missed opportunities but also in extreme circumstances it can have tragic outcomes for women and girls.

It was great to catch up with Flavia again. She’s one to watch - I can’t wait to see and hear about what Flavia and Fleet will be doing in 10 years time and beyond.

The Next Steps 2026 was the 11th time our Zahra Foundation Australia community got together to raise awareness and vital funds to support our programs and initiatives.

A big shout out to all of you who walked, ran, fundraised, donated, volunteered or simply showed up. You made this event the success that it was.

Thank you for standing alongside us, and alongside the women we support.
