๐ŸชDefence HQ breaks ground at Lot Fourteen. ๐Ÿช

The new 11-storey innovation centre, to be known as Defence HQ, will significantly strengthen South Australia's defence capabilities, becoming a focal point for defence, space and critical technologies while supporting the nation's AUKUS endeavours.

Defence HQ will provide a platform to accelerate defence capability, innovation, research commercialisation and business growth in South Australia.

BAE Systems Australia will establish its new South Australian headquarters within Defence HQ, alongside three major projects that will bring more than $100 million in world-class talent, capability and facilities to the state:

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Australian Defence Technologies Academy
๐Ÿ’ก Innovation Hub, operated by Adelaide University
๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ SpaceBase, the Australian Space Common User Facility

The addition of Defence HQ is expected to double the workforce population at Lot Fourteen to more than 3,000 people, further strengthening the district as a hub for collaboration between industry, research and government.

๐Ÿงฑ Built has been appointed as the builder, with construction expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

๐Ÿ“ธ Minister Picton, Di Dixon, Minister Conroy, Craig Lockhart and Premier of South Australia, Peter Malinauskas.

โš›๏ธ A major milestone for quantum innovation at Lot Fourteen.

Archer Materials Limited has secured $7 million in funding and entered a three-year strategic partnership with IonQ, a global leader in quantum computing.

The agreement provides Archer with access to IonQ's Quantum Cloud and supports its strategy to establish sovereign quantum computing capability in Australia, while also assessing the deployment of an IonQ quantum computer on Australian soil.

Alongside this milestone, Archer continues to progress towards a working qubit demonstration in Q3 2026, with full-wafer graphene runs underway.

๐ŸŒ• A small South Australian town is helping prepare humans for the Moon.

Just 40 minutes north of Adelaide, the red dirt at Adelaide University's Roseworthy campus is standing in for the lunar surface.

Home to the Exterres facility, researchers are using a 4,000 sqm outdoor testing ground alongside the purpose-built CRATER facility to recreate key aspects of the Moon's environment, helping advance the technologies and teamwork needed for future lunar missions.

As part of the ADAMA (Astronautical Demonstration of an Analogue Mission in Australia) mission, researchers from the Andy Thomas Centre for Space Resources are exploring how astronauts and AI can work together under pressure, with each monitoring the other for errors and providing mutual support.

It's a glimpse into the future of human-machine collaboration, where cutting-edge research is being translated into real-world solutions for industry and space exploration alike.

๐Ÿค– What experts are predicting for AI's next wave

What will artificial intelligence look like in 2028? According to experts from the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML), Salesforce, Stone & Chalk and LoopSoup, the answer goes far beyond chatbots and content generation.

From autonomous AI agents that rapidly adapt and evolve within their environments and handle sensitive workflows securely, to 'solopreneurs' running multimillion-dollar companies with no employees, supported entirely by fleets of AI agents, the next few years could fundamentally change how we work, build and innovate.

Discover what some of South Australia's leading AI thinkers predict is coming next in the latest feature from Boundless_05.

๐Ÿ”ฌQuantX Labs secures landmark investment to accelerate global expansion

Lot Fourteen-based QuantX Labs has secured a landmark investment from global critical technologies investor Serendipity Capital, marking the firm's first investment in an Australian company.

The funding will accelerate the commercialisation and export of QuantX Labs' next-generation optical atomic clocks and quantum sensing technologies, supporting growing global demand across the Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) and sensing markets.

It will also support the company's plans to scale manufacturing, grow its Adelaide-based workforce and expand deployment of its TEMPO optical atomic clock platform to customers across the defence, space, telecommunications, critical infrastructure and navigation sectors worldwide.

The investment is a strong endorsement of both QuantX Labs' technology and its vision to establish Australia as a global leader in sovereign quantum-enabled capabilities. ๐Ÿ‘
