Thanks to the many local landholders over the last few months who have completed or asked for assistance in completing hazard reduction burns. We’ve enjoyed getting to talk with many of you and get our training up ahead of fire season. Hazard reduction makes a difference for you and your neighbours.

The next few weeks may be the last good chance before things really warm up to reduce the risk in your patch. Please reach out to the Advancetown Fire Warden to arrange a permit for fires greater than 2 cubic metres. If you want brigade assistance or have any questions feel free to reach out or make yourself known to us at the brigade on a Tuesday night.

With Queensland’s higher risk bushfire period here, it’s important to stay across the Fire Danger Rating for your area.

The FDR is updated daily and reflects how severe a bushfire could be and how difficult it would be to contain.

🟢 Moderate: Stay up to date and be ready to act.

🟡 High: Decide what you’ll do if a fire starts and be alert during heightened fire conditions.

🟠 Extreme: Make sure your property is fire ready and, if a fire starts, take immediate action.

🔴 Catastrophic: Leave bushfire risk areas. Stay safe by getting to a safer location in the morning or the right before.

Hey Hidden Woods,

Tonight we are assisting with a pile burn at the end of Miandetta Drive. Please be aware of firefighters in the area but there is nothing to be concerned about. There may be a small amount of smoke around tonight.

A reminder if you have an area you want to reduce hazard or piles that need burning, don’t hesitate to contact the Fire Warden where you can organise for us to come give you a hand. Now is the perfect time to do so 👌

From fighting fires to protecting our environment, rural firies like Filippo Cazzulino are what keep our community strong and safe 👨‍🚒

A huge congratulations to Filippo on being named the Southeast Region Young Volunteer of the Year in the Rural Fire Service Queensland Week awards – a well-deserved recognition 🏆👏

Since joining the Gilston/Advancetown Rural Fire Brigade in 2023, Filippo has made strong contributions through bushfire preparedness activities and community events, stepping into a leadership role this year.

Outside the brigade, he continues to protect our natural environment as a Ranger with Queensland National Parks 🌳

Volunteers like Filippo are the backbone of our hinterland - and our community is incredibly proud of you!

I will continue to support our hardworking rural firefighters and volunteers, and the Crisafulli Government will continue backing the vital work they do to keep Queenslanders safe 📣

RFS Week Award Winner – Filippo Cazzulino 🔥

For the fourth time since 2022, we are proud to have the South East Region’s Young Volunteer of the Year come from Gilston/Advancetown Rural Fire Brigade.

Since joining the brigade in 2023, Filippo has consistently contributed and become a key member of our brigade management team.

With a passion for the environment, community, and ecological burning, Filippo brings these together through his role as Community Engagement Coordinator at our brigade, as well as his work as a Ranger with Queensland National Parks.

He has coordinated multiple community engagement events, most recently our Community Bushfire Preparedness morning, and has also stepped up as a leader at Gilston this year following the departure of several members of our management team.

Thank you, Filippo, for everything you do for our brigade and community. We know you’ll continue to achieve great things throughout your career, both as a volunteer and in your professional role. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
