🧪🚀 Science Week Fun at Hayman Island State School! 🔬✨
Last week, our students and visitors became junior scientists for Science Week!
There was plenty of messy, hands-on fun as everyone experimented with slime, explored the strange properties of oobleck, and launched test tube rockets! 🚀💥
Lots of curiosity, excitement and scientific thinking made for a fantastic afternoon of learning and discovery.
A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our Science Week celebrations so much fun! 🧑‍🔬👩‍🔬🌟

🏝️ Survivor Island Playgroup! 🌴
Our little adventurers had a fantastic time completing a series of Survivor Island challenges, using teamwork, problem-solving and plenty of imagination to build shelter, find food and water, overcome obstacles and finally be rescued! 🚤✨
We also enjoyed a customised storybook about seven Hayman adventurers who travelled to an uninhabited island and had to work together to survive and find a way to get help.
Such a fun afternoon of adventure, creativity and teamwork! 💙🌊

🐛🌈 PREP TRANSITION FUN! 🌈🐛
Our Prep Transition Days have recently started, and our future Preppies are having lots of fun learning new routines, playing and exploring school life! 💙
This week, we have been enjoying The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛🍎, singing songs about the days of the week 🎶 and learning together through play.
We’re loving watching our newest little learners grow in confidence and become part of our Hayman school family! 🌴💙

What a fantastic and very busy week at Hayman Island State School! 🌴💙
This week we've proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week, recognising and honouring the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
There were Birthday celebrations and cooking healthy chocolate cakes to mark the milestones.
We also recognised our student leaders, awarding them their Student Leader badges.
To top it all off, our students celebrated 100 Days of School! 🎉 It was wonderful to see the creativity, smiles and excitement as they marked this special milestone in their learning journey.
A huge thank you to our students, staff and families for making this such a memorable week. We are so proud of our Hayman community!

🌏💚 World Environment Day at Hayman Island State School 💚🌏
Today our students celebrated World Environment Day by learning how small actions can make a big difference for our planet.
Students explored ways to care for the environment through hands-on activities including recycling, discussing ways to reduce waste, learning about protecting our local reef and marine life, global warming and planting bean seeds in theie decorated pots. We also sang our special Environment Day song and talked about how we can all help keep Hayman beautiful.
At Hayman, we are proud to be Learning in Paradise and doing our part to protect the incredible environment we call home. 🌴🐢♻️

🌱🍉 Pick of the Crop – Farm to Plate! 🫑🚜
Our students had a fantastic day visiting Vee Jay's Kalfresh Farm in Bowen as part of the Pick of the Crop program.
They explored crops including corn, pumpkins, watermelon, mini capsicums and beans, watched a drone in action over the fields, and enjoyed tasting fresh snack-sized capsicums and watermelon.
Back at school, students planted their seeds and seedlings and used their capsicums to make a delicious, nutrient-packed vegetable slice.
A big thank you to VJK Farms, Health and Wellbeing Queensland, and Pick of the Crop for this wonderful hands-on learning experience! 🌱💚

🚧🦺 Playgroup Fun with Construction! 🦺🚧

After enjoying a construction-themed story together, our Playgroup friends and students put on their safety vests and became builders for the afternoon!
Using blocks, dump trucks and plenty of imagination, the children designed, built and created a range of amazing structures. From towering buildings to creative inventions, the afternoon was filled with problem-solving, teamwork and imaginative play.
Hands-on experiences like these help develop creativity, communication skills, fine motor skills and confidence, all while having lots of fun!
We loved seeing our little builders hard at work and can't wait for our next Playgroup adventure! 🏗️👷‍♀️👷‍♂️
