We are now recruiting new VOLUNTEER members! 🧐

Frontline firefighters 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒 need lots of support to enable them to their job keeping our community safe and one of those vital support roles is Communications.

You will be operating out of the Fire Control Centre in Albion Park Rail, our role is to dispatch and monitor fire units to and from a fireground and or other incidents using Computer Aided-Dispatch.

If you:
✅have some spare time,
✅would like to contribute to your community,
✅have good communication skills,
✅are able to think clearly and act quickly,
✅are able to stay calm in difficult situations,
✅are able to multitask, and
✅ have an aptitude for technical activities and IT applications

Today our Operational Command Vehicle (OCV)and Communications Members attended the Get Ready Weekend event at Farmborough Heights Rural Fire Brigade, interacting with the community and offering a detailed tour of our truck.

In response to today's extreme Fire Danger Rating and total fire ban, our brigade members have taken over on radio and Computer-Aided Dispatch operations from the Operational Control Centre in Sydney, commencing at 10:00 hours, to help manage the workload locally at the Illawarra Fire Control Centre.

Update:
Our members have finished for the day and have handed back to OCC (State Operations). We handled 10 incidents + throughout the day.

⚠️ Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS ⚠️

Damaging winds developing over parts of southeast NSW from this evening.

For the ILLAWARRA: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 70 to 80 km/h with peak gusts of around 110 km/h are likely from Wednesday morning, easing from Wednesday afternoon.

HAZARD REDUCTIONS NOTIFICATION - Saturday 9 March - Engadine

RFS and Fire + Rescue crews will be conducting a hazard reduction burn near Fairview Avenue, Cutler Road, Beta Place & Peppermint Grove, Engadine, if weather conditions allow on the day.

Operations will be starting at approximately 9am. Patrols will be conducted at regular intervals until declared out.

Fire fighters have planned this hazard reduction burn carefully and it forms a part of the Bush Fire Risk Management Plan for the Sutherland.

Smoke from the operation may affect residents in the area. Please avoid the area if possible and help keep our crews safe.

Please note that the proposed area included the bushland between Beethoven Street, Raymond Place and Heathcote Road - however due to fuel moisture still being high on this side we have to exclude this part of the burn. It will be conducted when conditions on this side improve.
