Recent thefts of copper along the Westgate Freeway and M80 Interchange are being reported to police.

Not only does this property crime cause significant damage, but copper theft also poses a public safety risk by disrupting the flow of electricity that powers everyday infrastructure, such as traffic lights and warning signs.

That’s why it’s important you report any suspicious activity or previous copper thefts to police to investigate.

Suspicious activities to look out for include:
⚠️ exposed wires or even a pit lid that seems to have been moved and not replaced;
⚠️ pits being accessed at night without the area being fully lit;
⚠️ people wearing hi-vis clothing and removing pit lids without proper equipment.

If you see the theft unfold, please call 000 immediately. Otherwise, share what you see or know with Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Thinking about buying an electric fat bike?

Fat bikes are easy to spot thanks to their extra-wide tyres, but don't assume every electric fat bike is a legal e-bike.

Some models are capable of speeds and power levels that place them in the motorcycle category.

If that's the case, riders need:

✅ Registration
✅ A motorcycle licence or learner permit
✅ To be 18+

Check the rules before you buy: https://transport.vic.gov.au/road-and-active-transport/active-transport/bicycles/electric-bikes

Altona police are appealing for witnesses to a multi-car collision in Altona North last night.

It's believed a green Toyota Corolla and four other vehicles were involved in a collision on the inbound lane of the Westgate Freeway, just prior to the Westgate Bridge, about 6.50pm on 18 October.

A passenger in the Toyota, a 19-year-old Broadmeadows man sustained critical injuries and was conveyed to hospital.

The diver of the Corolla, an 18-year-old Broadmeadows man along with a second passenger, a 22-year-old Broadmeadows man, sustained serious injuries and was also conveyed to hospital.

The collision resulted in all lanes being shut down for several hours.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has CCTV or dashcam footage or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

Last week, we recognised Highpoint Shopping Centre and their ongoing commitment to community safety following the successful integration of the centre's CCTV network with Victoria Police systems.

This project strengthens crime prevention efforts by giving police faster access to critical technology, enhancing situational awareness, supporting investigations, and helping identify risks earlier.

Partnerships like this show what's possible when organisations come together with a shared goal - creating safer places for the Victorian community.

Together, we can help keep our community safe 💙👮

🚨 WESTGATE HWP – OPERATION PROTECT 🚨

🎬 “Pop quiz, hot shot! What happens when you go 24 km/h over the 40 km/h school speed limit?”

Sorry, Gen Z. You might need to Google the Dennis Hopper reference. 😂

Today’s 21-year-old learner decided an active school zone was the perfect place to audition for Speed 3.

Unfortunately, the sequel came with a few unexpected plot twists:
❌ No L plates.
❌ Suspended licence.
❌ Accompanying passenger also unlicensed.

Talk about a group project to try and get ya hours up but looks like nobody read the instructions. 🤦‍♂️

When asked about it? “No comment.” Fair enough. Unfortunately, silence isn’t a cheat code, and a date with the Magistrate coming your way.

🏫 School zones aren’t racetracks. Slow down. The only thing that should be speeding near a school is the rumour that Highway Patrol is around!

🚨 WESTGATE HWP – ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER MASTERCLASS IN QUESTIONABLE DECISIONS 🏍️

Another eventful day on the bikes, with today’s contestants doing their absolute best to keep us entertained. Common sense was clearly running a little behind schedule. 🤦‍♂️

🏍️ CONTESTANT #1 THE SOLID LINE SPECIALIST

Overtaking across a solid white line, undertaking another vehicle, then hitting 104 km/h in an 80 zone. A full set of questionable decisions in record time.

When stopped, he admitted he saw us but couldn’t explain why he did it right in front of us.

Mate, we’re wondering the same thing. 😂

🚛 CONTESTANT #2 THE “SHE’LL BE RIGHT” SPECIALIST

Rolled out the old trailer, confidently declaring it was a 6x4 and therefore didn’t need registration.

Unfortunately, a quick tape-measure inspection suggested otherwise. And just when things couldn’t get any better, we discovered the load in the back wasn’t secured.

Apparently, “she’ll be right” isn’t an approved load-restraint method. 🤷‍♂️

🛣️ THE FREEWAY REGULARS (PAINTED ISLAND EDITION)

A quick visit to our favourite painted-island complaint location delivered the usual entertainment.

One driver spotted us and decided the best escape plan was to cut across traffic into the far-right lane. Subtlety clearly wasn’t part of the plan.
We caught a few familiar faces, welcomed some repeat customers, and even received the traditional “revenue raisers” review.

Look, we don’t make you drive over the painted islands. We just happen to be there when you do. If you choose to make a voluntary financial contribution to the state, that’s between you and your wallet. 💸

30 offenders in 30 minutes. At that rate, we barely had time to finish our coffee. ☕

🏎️ FINAL CONTESTANT LIGHTNING McQUEEN’S COUSIN

Saving the best for last, this driver decided traffic was merely a suggestion and attempted to race his way to the front. The finishing speed? 125 km/h in a 60 zone. The finish line came a lot sooner than expected.

🏁 PRIZE PACKAGE:
🚗 Dad’s car impounded for 30 days.
🪪 Licence gone for 12 months.
🏎️ Racing career temporarily suspended.

Stay safe, ride smart, secure your loads and remember: the road isn’t a racetrack, the painted islands aren’t shortcuts, and we’re generally not hard to spot when you’re looking where you’re going.

🚨 WESTGATE HWP – SOLOS ARE BACK IN TOWN! 🏍️☀️

The weather’s warming up, the riding gear is coming out, and apparently some people have decided that road rules are also taking a summer holiday. 😂

Today’s contestant managed to collect the triple threat:
🏎️ Speeding
🔢 Obscuring the number plate
🧪 Positive roadside drug test

Three infringements later, they’ve earned themselves 6 months off the road. Not exactly the kind of riding break they had planned! 👋

But wait… there’s more! A closer inspection of the bike revealed a leaking fork seal, with oil covering the brake calliper.

Because apparently, stopping is just a suggestion when your maintenance schedule consists of “she’ll be right, mate.” 🤦‍♂️

🏍️ The takeaway: Before heading out for a ride, make sure your bike is roadworthy, your number plates are visible, your head is clear, and your right wrist understands the speed limit.

Enjoy the sunshine, ride safe, and remember: it’s much cheaper to service your bike than to service a six-month suspension!
