Altona CSR Landcare Reserve The Altona CSR Landcare Reserve is 70 ha of native vegetation..The reserve is a Heritage listed site. in conjunction with the Barossa Council.

On days of a Total Fire Ban in the Mounty Lofty Ranges the Reserve is closed due to extreme conditions. The Altona CSR Landcare Reserve is approximately 70 ha of native vegetation and it is Heritage listed. The area was formerly a sand mine and has been successfully restored by the Williamstown & Lyndoch Landcare Group Inc. In 1995 the Williamstown, Lyndoch Landcare Group Inc., purchased the firs

t section of land from CSR, then in 1998 the Group were able to purchase the remainder of the CSR property and transferred the ownership of Altona CSR Landcare Reserve to The Barossa Council. The reserve is currently maintained by the Williamstown & Lyndoch Landcare Group Inc. Altona CSR Landcare Reserve provides one of the last natural vestiges of pre-European vegetation remaining within The Barossa Council District (outside of Conservation Parks). The reserve is open to the public however there are no toilets within the reserve. Dogs are not allowed within the reserve. Volunteering Opportunities - Volunteers meet for weekly working bees at 9.00 am on Thursdays at the storage container on site during the cooler months from the beginning of March to the end of November. The storage container is situated 500 metres along the entrance roadway. The gates are open for volunteer vehicles during working bees but are closed at all other times. New volunteers are always welcome and if you have any questions in regard to volunteering at the reserve please contact the group. We are a Centrelink approved organisation.

Hi All,
After the rain, we were off to check it all out!!!!
First ofcourse was off to the gorge and we could hear the water over the rocks from far away. We checked the whole park and every lower lying point was full of water.
Lovely little waterholes for the wildlife scattered all around the place😊
We went around later to an off-track area, and found a patch of quite established Boneseed. Managed to get them out with a lot of pulling and tugging💪💪😄
We all enjoyed the later start, much better in winter!

Hi All,
A good day outside today before the weather will come in. A decent drop of rain is forcast, and the local ants are ready for it! They build these mounts to stop the rain from flooding the nest and the higher, the more rain we’ll get👍
Lots of things are flowering so here are some “Colours of Altona”

Next week we’ll start our working bee at 10 0’clock so it is already a bit warmer, and the grass will be more dry which makes it more pleasant for us to work around the place….

Hi All
A beautiful sunny day after the cold and wet ones!
The track is open and looks very neat and tidy again😊👏 and the team went off to what we call “The Wetlands” as there are a lot of weeds to deal with there.
The water starts to puddle on the ground and stays, instead of draining away…which is great for the animals, as this is another watering hole now for them.
The rain for Altona is around the 260ml (roughly) this first half year, and since our average for the year should be 550ml, we still have a bit to go😃
The Reserve looks great, and you can see Spring already (softly) knocking on the door!

Update Thanks to the Barossa Council Arborist team who have cleared the tree on the Loop 3 Boobook Trail

Fallen Tree
We currently have a fallen tree across Loop 3 Yellow Boobook Trail ( Orlando’s Lookout way ) Our arborist was advised 9/7/2026 & it is scheduled to be cleared . Thank you to those members of the public who have contacted the Reserve FB page regarding the tree. Please be care if walking that path

Hi All!
It is truly Fungi Time in the reserve, so many different shapes and colours. You’d have to go slow and focus on the ground and you’ll see more and more of them…
Some look like turds and some are very pretty😄 Good sign as they are important in the natural cycle.
When we working around the place, noticed spring is knocking at the door, flowers and buds appearing everywhere, nice to see!
As usual there is always a curious local hopping by to suss us out and say g’day🥰🥰🥰
The park is well visited too, we always seem to meet walkers on our working bees.👍👍👍

Hi all,
Cruzy day in the Park, nice weather and there were a fair few walkers around😊
Chugging along in the trusty ute, we noticed excavation works have been done during the week.
The Echidnas must have been starving! We found these marks all over the place. They stood out as the holes were deeper as usual…
Later on we went weeding Scabiosa, under the watchful eyes of our local residents😄
The whole reserve is looking beautiful now, a bit more colour everywhere…

Hi All
Nice day to be out and about!
We had a nice welcome from first-time visitors, who absolutely loved the place and what we were doing there to keep things up, great to get feedback on he spot even before we started.😃
After the rain, the reserve is greening up, mushrooms popping up everywhere…..(this was a chewed one, they feel realy slimy, and what likes to eat them is beyond us😄)
Working around a big old gum, noticed this leaning branch, over the years it must have been rubbing and with time the 2 branches became one. Beautiful to see the healing in it.
We cleared up the fallen tree as good as we could to open the track, Council came later in the day and finished the job👌👌👌
