I recently visited Ambury Regional Park. What used to be a sewage treatment area, has been rehabilitated into habitat for local wildlife.
The efforts include planting over 300,000 plants, 7 new beaches and 2 shell bank islands created. This is the Largest Coastal Rehabilitation project in New Zealand.
It was amazing to see many species we don’t have back in Australia, as well as several threatened species using the man made shell islands.
Pictures attached include a flock of threatened South Island Pied Oystercatchers using the shell island, and recent forest regeneration .
