Good road projects start well before construction begins 🛣️

For some of the City's road rehabilitation projects, planning starts 12 to 18 months before crews arrive on site, helping ensure projects are well scoped, designed and ready for delivery.

The Metropolitan Regional Road Group (MRRG) program is a great example. It provides funding to help the City renew eligible distributor roads, with Main Roads WA generally contributing two-thirds of the funding and the City contributing the remainder.

To develop a project, City teams bring together road condition information, pavement testing, traffic volumes and heavy vehicle use. This helps determine the right treatment before drawings, cost estimates and a detailed project scope are prepared to support the funding application.

It's a collaborative effort across Asset, Engineering Design and Program Delivery, combining condition assessment, technical design, costing and delivery planning.

Starting this work early also gives the City the opportunity to seek significant external funding and make its own investment go further, while planning road improvements that will provide lasting benefits for the community.

It's all part of the work that happens well before construction begins to help keep our road network safe, reliable and working well into the future 🔮

The City is pleased to see the positive story in the Examiner that work is being progressed at 12 Davis Rd in Kelmscott.

We'd like to clarify, however, that the City is not a part owner as was initially reported. The City’s role has been in its regulatory capacity, including issuing a Building Order on safety grounds and working with the Strata Group of Owners and their consultants as works progress.

When was the last time you visited your local library? 📚

With more than 380,000 visits each year, our libraries are some of the busiest community spaces in the City.

And while you’ll definitely find plenty of books, you’ll also find workshops, children’s programs, technology, meeting and study spaces, community groups, events and, perhaps most importantly, a warm and welcoming place to spend some time.

Mayor Ruth Butterfield recently dropped into Piara Waters Library to share why our libraries are about so much more than what’s on the shelves.

Pop into Armadale, Kelmscott, Piara Waters or Seville Grove Library and see what’s happening at your local 💚
