Fire call 13/05/26

Wednesday evening and Thursday morning our crews responded to a structure fire near Rocky River.

We provided support to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 475 Uralla and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 205 Armidale, alongside Diggings Rural Fire Brigade, NSW Ambulance, NSW Police and Essential Energy.

Our crews worked seamlessly to provide water, while four of our Breathing Apparatus (BA) operators entered the structure to assist with extinguishing the blaze.

A sincere thank you to everyone involved for the rapid and well-coordinated response.

Saturday was a busy day for us. First off we attended the New England Solar Farm for training on fire suppression of the Battery Energy Storage System along with Diggings Rural Fire Brigade While we were there we got paged to assist at a fire in Balala which was burning in TSR. There were multiple brigades from the New England and Tamworth Districts on scene to control the fire.

Fire call 5/3/26

It has been a massive weekend for brigades in the New England District.

Our brigade was paged to a fire at Dumaresq Dam at 10:40pm Thursday night. The fire wasn't accessible by vehicle so crews worked on foot into early Friday morning with blowers and rake hoes to contain the fire.

On Friday at 11am, we were called back when it jumped containment due to stronger winds. This is when the fire left the Dumaresq Dam Reserve and raced through neighbouring properties. Brigades from all over the New England District responded, along with 2 water bombing aircraft, a council grader, a dozer and local landowners.

Everyone worked tirelessly to contain the fire before any properties or livestock were lost.
Over the following days crews patrolled the fire, putting out hotspots and liaising with property owners.

Dumaresq Dam Reserve remains closed until further notice due to falling trees and active fire within containment.

Thankyou to everyone involved who came out to help in any shape or form.

Training 24/2/26

During our Tuesday night training, members honed their skills at approaching and extinguishing a vehicle fire.

MVAs and vehicle fires make up a fair quantity of Dumaresq's callouts which is why it's important for us to stay proficient.

For our newest recruits, this was their first exposure to this type of incident, so now they've got an understanding of what is required when we roll up to a scene.

⛈️With storm season in full swing, it's a timely reminder to check your property for signs of smoke from lightning strikes. ⚡️🔥

Dumaresq has been paged to 2 separate fires caused by lightning this week. One of which was smouldering in a tree for 2 days before spreading through bushland. The 2nd was only an hour after ignition.

If we catch these fires early, we can minimise the spread and the potential damage to property.

Huge thankyou to Bunnings Armidale for having us today for the classic Sunday sausage sizzle, and for the incredible donation to our brigade of a pressure washer and shovels to help assist our brigade.

Also thanks to everyone that came by, said hi and indulged in a snag! 🌭
