We're opening our doors for a community afternoon tea on Wed Sept 16 & we'd love to see you. The final in our series of 6 of Winter Home Fire Safety tips. Can emergency services easily find your property, especially at night or in bad weather, or both? Make sure your number is clearly marked outside your property; bonus points if it's reflective! (Rural properties might even consider having two sets of numbers so that it can be seen in either direction!). Australia’s new national warning system AusAlert uses cell-broadcast technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices. Before it launches in October 2026, we need to test the system to make sure it works as intended.

On Monday 27 July at around 2:00 pm AEST, a test AusAlert will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in the country at the same time.

This is called the AusAlert national test. It will be a Critical Alert, which means mobile devices will vibrate, make a loud siren-like warning sound that lasts about 10 seconds, and show an AusAlert test message.

Critical Alerts override ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’ functions. If the AusAlert national test will disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, turn mobile devices off or switch them to ‘aeroplane mode’ before the scheduled test time and leave them off for at least one hour.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Brian Alford, Andrew’s father & Robin’s husband. Brian was a long serving member of the brigade, and had a wealth of history and stories which he would recount. He was a noted Charolais breeder and bred and showed cattle from his stud. We send our sincere condolences to the entire Alford family.

6 weeks of Winter Home Fire Safety - Week 4. Is your chimney safe? When did you last have your chimney checked & cleaned? Burning firewood can leave buildup inside your chimney, leading to an increased risk of a chimney fire. It's advised to have it cleaned & checked each year.
