A new grant from Emily’s Entourage is supporting research into gene-corrected airway stem cells as a potential long-lasting therapy for cystic fibrosis.

The research aims to help corrected cells grow, survive and repair lung tissue over time. While still in its early stages, this approach could offer hope for people with CF who are not eligible for current CFTR modulator treatments.

Inhaled TRNA Therapy Restores CFTR in Cystic FibrosiPromising new research has shown that an inhaled tRNA therapy can restore CFTR protein production and function in laboratory models of cystic fibrosis caused by nonsense mutations.

The approach has been tested in cells, mice and patient-derived organoids. While further research is needed to assess its safety and effectiveness in people, the findings offer hope for people with CF who may not benefit from existing modulator therapies.

Next weekend, our friends in Longreach - Brooke Machin, Anna Lacey, and Rosemary and Warwick Champion - will host the Megan Walker Mini Marathon for the 36th year in support of Cystic Fibrosis Queensland.

Join Team CFQ at Bridge to Brisbane

Bridge to Brisbane returns on Sunday, 13 September 2026, and we would love you to join . Choose the 10km or 5km course and run, jog, walk or roll alongside thousands of participants while raising funds and awareness for people living with cystic fibrosis.

Already registered? You can still join and start fundraising. You can also support our participants by donating to their fundraising pages.

Wishing the very best of luck to Kim Holley and Liz Shevill at the 2026 Patient’s Choice Awards this evening.

Kim is a passionate advocate for people living with cystic fibrosis and their families and serves as Chair of Cystic Fibrosis Queensland’s Consumer Advisory Committee. She is a finalist in the Outstanding Patient Advocate category.

Liz is a highly respected paediatric cystic fibrosis nurse practitioner who has supported countless children with CF and their families throughout their care journeys. She is a finalist in the Outstanding Nurse category.

Being selected as national finalists is a wonderful and well-deserved recognition of the difference Kim and Liz make within the cystic fibrosis community.

Congratulations, Kim and Liz. Everyone at Cystic Fibrosis Queensland is incredibly proud of you both and wishes you the very best for tonight!
