Planned Hazard Reduction Burns from Monday around Mt Garnet.

Residents are advised that planned hazard reduction burns may be undertaken by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development on State Land between 8 June and 12 June 2026 in Mount Garnet, in partnership with Tablelands Regional Council and Rural Fire Service Queensland.

The burns will only proceed under suitable weather conditions to ensure fire intensity remains low and manageable. Wildlife corridors will be established to allow native fauna to safely move away from the burn area.

Smoke may be present. Residents, particularly those with respiratory conditions, should take precautions such as closing windows and doors and keeping medications close by.

What you should do:
✅Stay indoors and close windows and doors if smoke is affecting your area
✅Keep respiratory medications readily available
✅Avoid driving through smoke where possible
✅Watch for firefighters and emergency vehicles working in the area
✅Do not fly drones near the burn area, as they can disrupt aerial firefighting operations

These burns play an important role in reducing bushfire risk, protecting communities and infrastructure, and supporting the health and biodiversity of our natural environment.
