Exhibition closing soon! - Velvet Neon Coral exhibition by artist at the Tableland Regional Gallery.

Townsville-based artist Lisa Ashcroft’s bright, arrhythmic, textured-rich paintings explore her experiences with the Great Barrier Reef. At the intersection of natural processes and human intervention, art and advocacy, this body of work depicts coral regrowth, propagation and cloning methods, and represents an open and vital conversation about the stewardship of the Reef, the challenges posed to it by climate change, and the role of science in conserving biodiversity.

Following Tablelands Regional Council’s recent endorsement of the recommended location for the Multipurpose Facility, the planning process now moves to the final stages of considering concept design options with the Community Working Group.

The Working Group includes representatives from the Malanda Show Society, Malanda Junior Rugby League Club, Malanda Chamber of Commerce, Choorechillum Aboriginal Corporation, and the two State schools in the area.

This positive next stage of the planning process will consider how to reflect and pay tribute to Malanda’s unique history by acknowledging pioneering families and the incredibly rich First Nations story, while looking to the future.

Tablelands Regional Council is offering free Grant Writing Workshops for residents, community groups, and organisations across the Tablelands Region.

The workshops will be delivered by experienced and knowledgeable facilitators with expertise in grant writing and funding processes and participants will learn practical skills to help improve their chances of securing funding for community projects and initiatives.

Workshop topics will include:
✅Understanding funding bodies and grant objectives
✅Aligning projects with funding priorities and community outcomes
✅Understanding grant eligibility criteria and responsibilities
✅Common grant writing tips and frequently asked questions

Participants are encouraged to bring a notebook, laptop, or relevant project ideas to assist with workshop activities and discussions. Tea, coffee, and water will be provided.

The full program for the Creek Parklands opening has now been announced!

The two-day opening will feature a mix of live entertainment, markets, food, family activities and community celebration, with Friday’s program including the civic ribbon cutting and opening ceremony, sunset markets, local performances, popular Australian ABBA Tribute Show, SOS and a fireworks display.

Saturday will continue from 8.00am to 1.00pm with Fitness in the Parklands, a huge kid’s creative play zone featuring Marvellous Miss Mary and Zippity Zac, Storytime in the Park, Basketball Skills and Drills, artisan and farmers markets and food trucks, before evening entertainment resumes from 5.00pm and the 70s and 80s Spectacular begins at 6.30pm.

𝗔 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀:

"I was discharged from hospital and have been at home for just over a week.

I am relieved to be back home with my family.

I can’t speak highly enough of the extraordinary care I received in hospital, and the amazing staff at the
Atherton Hospital ED and the Townsville University Hospital.

My recovery so far has been good but steady. I remain under the care of my local GP whilst also getting
expert medical advice about what likely lies ahead for me.

The level of support and well wishes from colleagues, staff, and members of our community took me by
surprise and really uplifted me and my family at a difficult time.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and messages.

A special thank you as well to councillors and staff at TRC. Our organisation is more than just any one person- it’s a committed team and when one person is absent, everyone steps up and continues to deliver at their best, in the community’s interest. Knowing that level of care, support, and effort is there means I could fully focus on my health during this period of medical leave."

Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) and Better Together Community Support are partnering to facilitate the First Nations Disaster Preparedness Roundtable.

The Roundtable will bring together First Nations organisations, emergency management agencies and community organisations, to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience across the Tablelands region.

The First Nations Disaster Preparedness Roundtable will be held on Wednesday 24 June 2026, between 10:00am to 3:00pm at the Disaster Coordination Centre, 15 Vernon St, Atherton.

This free roundtable session will feature nationally recognised First Nations disaster resilience research and discussion relating to disaster preparedness before, during and after major environmental events.

🎨ART and Mind | Join us for an exhibition by by the Yungaburra Village Artists at the 86 Atherton Herberton Rd, Atherton.

The Yungaburra Village Artists bring a patchwork of perspectives to their latest exhibition, exploring the evolution of their work through gathering as a group to share ideas, critiques and the occasional creative crisis.

The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) is celebrating 130 years, and to mark the occasion they’re creating a commemorative cookbook called ‘A Shared Table’. The cookbook will feature one recipe from each of Queensland’s 77 local government areas, showcasing the flavours, traditions and stories that make every community unique.

What recipe best captures the Tablelands? Is it a family favourite passed down through generations? A dish featuring our incredible local produce? Something that reflects the diverse cultures and communities that call the Tablelands home? Does it feature the choko wildcard?
