Growing Strong Leaders

Our Junior School students have recently been taking part in the Indigenous Leaders Program, building confidence, connection, and leadership skills.

Through their involvement, students have had the opportunity to learn, share, and grow together - strengthening their voice and sense of identity.

Thank-you!

A huge Thank-You goes out to Alistair Hart for his generous donation of two Emlid GPS receivers to our school. We truly appreciate the support from you and the team at Mangoesmapping.

These units will be incredibly valuable for our students. Our Agricultural and ITD (Industrial Technology and Design) departments will use them to demonstrate real world applications of precision GPS technology in the classroom and the field.

Hands on experience with industry standard equipment like this gives our students a significant advantage as they prepare for future careers.

Investigating Plant Hormones in Senior Ag Science

Our Senior Agricultural Science students have been exploring how plant hormones influence growth and development through a range of hands-on investigations.

Students are comparing plant cuttings treated with rooting powder containing auxin, observing how it promotes root development and supports plant growth. They are also investigating how auxin affects stem elongation and plant movement towards light, helping explain how plants respond to their environment.

Other experiments include the use of gibberellin, which can influence stem growth, flowering, and fruit production, as well as exploring ethylene gas and its role in fruit ripening. Students are even using indicators such as iodine and glucose test strips to track the conversion of starch to sugar in ripening avocados.

A fantastic example of science in action - linking classroom learning to real-world agricultural processes!
