Year 10 Physics Takes Off!

Things were looking a little more like a launch pad than a classroom this week as our Year 10 students designed, built and launched their own bottle rockets!

Putting Newton’s Third Law into action, students explored how every action has an equal and opposite reaction, while experimenting with mass, centre of gravity, fin design and nose cones to see what would send their rockets flying further and straighter.

Plenty of testing, tweaking, launching… and learning along the way!

Physics is definitely more fun when it goes WHOOSH! 🚀

Our Year 7 boys hit the field at the FNQ Rugby League 9’s in Cairns recently and what a fantastic effort they put in!

The boys played some brilliant footy and narrowly missed out on a spot in the Grand Final, but that certainly didn’t dampen their spirits. They played hard, backed each other and represented Atherton with plenty of pride.

Well done, boys – you did us proud!

Community Call-Out – Can You Help Our Students Take Their Next Step?

We currently have a number of motivated ASHS students looking for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships with local businesses.

Our students are interested in a range of industries, including electrical, plumbing, mechanics, diesel fitting, hairdressing, business and hospitality. Some already hold pre-apprenticeship qualifications, have reliable transport and are ready to get to work!

We’d love to hear from local employers who may have an opportunity for one of our young people. Arrangements can be individually tailored to suit your business while giving a student an invaluable start in their chosen industry.

Building Skills AND Improving Our School! 👷

Our Year 12 Construction students have been putting their skills into action, working together to create a new pathway here at ASHS.

Students have been busy preparing the formwork and levelling the ground ready for the concrete pour – with everyone getting involved and contributing to the project.

Led by Mr Lynam, with the assistance of Mr Smith, this is hands-on learning at its best – developing real construction skills while creating something that will become a lasting part of our school.

We love seeing our students learning by doing and taking pride in improving the school they’re part of. Great work, Year 12!

Congratulations Kayden & Verity! 🎓

A huge congratulations to Kayden and Verity, who recently celebrated their graduation from the Deadly Start School Based Traineeship Program!

In collaboration with Connect ‘n’ Grow, both students completed a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance at Atherton Hospital – gaining valuable skills, experience and a fantastic head start towards their future careers.

What a wonderful achievement and an exciting milestone! We’re incredibly proud of you both and can’t wait to see where this experience takes you next.

On Thursday 10th September, our Student Council will be holding a Free Dress Day for all students to raise awareness for R U OK Day?

R U OK Day is a great reminder that a simple conversation can make a difference. It encourages us to check in with the people around us, stay connected and ask that important question.
