YSN - Youth Support Network

YSN - Youth Support Network Frequently asked questions! Who is YSN?? What do we do? We aim to connect, engage and advocate change for youth within Western Sydney. Who can join?

The Youth Support Network (YSN) allows youth within Western Sydney to voice, express and ascertain that their issues and ideas are recognised and discussed within the community. Supported by Auburn Community Development Network (ACDN), we are a non-government and non-profit organisation. YSN consists of a core group of ambassadors that actively engages with its members, belonging to the wider yout

h community - this includes you! We value and embrace every culture, background and religion that you belong to. Our motto is simply "For Youth, By Youth". Why is it so important for YSN to exist? Not only does it allow a much needed avenue for youth to express their opinions and ideas on youth issues, but it also provides an open platform and a range of opportunities for many young people of Western Sydney to come together, support and share each others' talents and passions - whatever that talent or passion may be. YSN also encourages learning about your rights as a young person in today's society and how this may significantly impact you! Making and supporting friends is also another important part of YSN! :)

How does YSN work? YSN ambassadors and members are passionate about certain youth issues and are dedicated in finding practical solutions to them. This involves intense planning, discussions and monthly meetings, some of which take place on the Facebook YSN Page, so that they are more accessible to every member, encouraging greater participation and better communication. Facebook event pages are created to manage and organise planning for upcoming events. We also prepare creative and educational workshops so YSN members can develop their skills and talents. Note that YSN members are the leaders of their own education :) ACDN simply guides and facilitates meetings and workshops which then members can decide their main focuses and organise events and participate in accordingly. What are some of the issues YSN are focusing on in 2011?

- Mental Health
- Racism
- Discrimination/Prejudice
- Employment

What if I'm interested in joining? We are always on the lookout for more young, talented, aspiring people who are willing to join us in our mission to make a difference in Western Sydney! Don't think you have a talent or a passion? We have many members who can say that YSN has helped them find theirs or their way to doing so. YSN believes in creating a supportive, healthy, safe- and don't forget FUN! - environment for all those who want to join. If you are between ages 12-25 years old, simply post on the wall to tell us if you want to join YSN! We'll go from there! Monthly meetings are on the first Friday of every month at the Auburn Community Development Network. What is the difference between YSN member/ambassador? A YSN member: supports YSN, has a passion about Western Sydney and participates in ongoing discussions and events (as much as they can- online etc.) A YSN ambassador: supports YSN at a much more serious committed level, attends at least 3 continuous monthly meetings and significantly contributes to planning events and discussing youth issues. Please post on the wall if you have any further inquiries! MUCH LOVE AND PEACE TO ALL! Looking forward to seeing/meeting you soon :)
