Our Training Officer Gary Inions took 11 of our members through the DFES "Basic Navigation" course on Saturday. A very useful and practical introduction to understanding marine charts and chart plotters, navigation marks and hazards. All passed and looking forward to upcoming courses on sea survival, seamanship skills and onboard training when our vessel, the RV Ryall, returns from a refit in Albany. Special thanks to Gary, and well done everyone.

Whalesong Festival long weekend in Augusta! Huge thanks to Noreen and Jeannie for the fantastic effort in getting the prizes organised and running the raffle from the early hours on Sunday - despite the wind and the rain. The prizes looked amazing. A great result from this fundraising, and an opportunity to promote the Augusta Volunteer Marine Rescue group. Special thanks to Ruth Jackson making the effort to bring promotional materials from Manjimup to the CRC. This event was also well supported by Mark, Daniel and Fiona who helped with the display and the raffle. In the morning we also had the annual Blessing of the Fleet attended by members from the club, despite the inclement weather. Thanks to everyone involved. Well done.

Augusta Volunteer Marine Rescue Group undertook a fundraising workshop last night. It was well attended by 37 members, new members and guests. Murray did a great job facilitating ideas across the tables and prioritising these for the committee to examine. Focus was on the $1million challenge to complete the new building. Thanks to Spencer Signs for supplying Thermometer, and Dale Alcock for kicking this stage of fundraising off with $150,000. See the Augusta-Margaret River Times for more information in National Volunteers Week 18-24th May.

Whilst our main rescue vessel RV Ryall is in Albany for a refit, Margaret River Marine Rescue is on standby with their vessel RV Brems should it be needed. They are a phone call away to drive their vessel to Augusta, and our team will provide a co-pilot and a full crew. On Tuesday 24th March operational skippers and crew members were invited to familiarise themselves with the vessel and its operation. Thanks to MR Commander Darren Johnson for organising this visit, and to Jock from the Margaret River Marine Rescue team for showing us around the boat.
