What a fantastic morning at Bacchus Marsh Village Shopping Centre for our latest Coffee with a Cop event.

Our members thoroughly enjoyed spending time with local residents, discussing community issues, listening to concerns, gathering valuable local information, and receiving plenty of positive feedback from the community.

There were lots of smiles from children excited to meet some "real life police", collect a few goodies, and say hello, while many locals took the opportunity to enjoy a free coffee and a friendly chat with their local police.

Events like Coffee with a Cop provide a relaxed and informal setting for police and the community to connect, helping to build trust, strengthen relationships, and keep the conversation going about the issues that matter most in Bacchus Marsh.

A special thank you to the management team at Bacchus Marsh Village and DE Group for their generous support in making this event possible. Your contribution helped create a wonderful opportunity for police and the community to come together.

Ballarat police are investigating a theft that occurred at a hospitality business in Main Road Ballarat on the 20th of July 2026.

It has been reported that a male was captured on CCTV removing a horse racing glass plate trophy from a display shelf, before secreting it on his person.

The plate has significant sentimental value to the owners.

CCTV footage captured images of male police believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

👮‍♂️🧑‍⚖️ Wanted on Warrants 🧑‍⚖️👮‍♂️

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate 35-year-old Davinder MAHAL, who is wanted by police on one warrant of apprehension.

MAHAL is described as 180cm tall with a medium build and known to frequent the Darley area.

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a man following the death of a woman in Bacchus Marsh earlier this week.

A 75-year-old Bacchus Marsh man was arrested at the scene and conveyed to hospital under police guard.

He was charged with murder this afternoon and will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later this evening.

The charge follows an incident where emergency services were called to reports a woman had been located deceased inside a property in Connor Street about 3.30am on Wednesday, 26 August.

A 41-year-old woman from Bacchus Marsh, was located deceased at the scene.

Police will allege the parties involved were known to each other.

On the 29th of April 2026, the Ballarat DRU commenced an investigation into the use of illegal shooting in the greater Ballarat area.

On the 12th of August 2026, a 25-year-old male from Smythes Creek was arrested and charged for possessing a fi***rm in contradiction to a fi***rm prohibition order.

The male was also charged with:

▪ Prohibited person possess fi***rm
▪Theft of Motor Vehicle x 2
▪ Commit indicatable offence whilst on bail
▪ Fail to update address as per fi***rm prohibition obligations

On the 13th of August 2026, the male was subsequently remanded at Ballarat Magistrate’s Court.

Further enquiries were undertaken by police and on the 26th of August 2026, a search warrant was executed at a rural property in Ross Creek, with the assistance of the Victoria Police Canine Unit.

Nexus evidence was located at the scene with the investigation seizing a large number of exhibits, including:

▪2 x stolen vehicles
▪A sawn-off sh***un
▪A quantity of sh***un shells
▪Several bags of cannabis
▪A large quantity of methyl-amphetamine
▪A vehicle diagnostic scan tool
▪Several prohibited and controlled weapons

The investigation team would especially like to thank the many community members for their assistance and for those who provided valuable information to police.

On this day, one year ago, two of our colleagues were tragically killed in the line of duty.

Today, and every day, we remember Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart and the tragedy that occurred in Porepunkah on 26 August 2025.

We thank everyone for their support and solidarity on this difficult day.

We will remember them.

New phone, who dis?

Picture this: You've just picked up your Hyundai from the tow yard after a 30 day impound for excessive speeding a month earlier when your licence was also suspended.

As you pull out onto the road and drive through the industrial area, you use your mobile phone to have a conversation while driving, while suspended from driving.

You then see the Highway Patrol driving past looking at you.

Moorabool HWP members intercepted the Hyundai, before the driver was spoken to by police and asked to produce his driver licence.

Result:

The Hyundai was again impounded for a period of 30 days. The male driver was interviewed roadside and will receive a summons to appear at Court for driving whilst unlicenced and using a handheld device.
