It didn’t take long.

Less than a week after the handover of our new truck, it was out for its first call early this morning. It was a car fire at Sandy Hollow.

Despite the early hour, we had a crew of three answer the call.

Thanks partly to a large number of roos wanting to get up close and personal with the new truck and a wait for a passing train, we were called off just before getting on scene.

Today we said goodbye to our Toyota Landcruiser, formerly known as Baerami 9. This vehicle has served our brigade well over the last 6 years since we received it second hand to replace an old cat 9 that we had for some time.

The great news is that this vehicle has been replaced by a brand new Isuzu category 7 vehicle which is now known as Baerami 7A. The brigade will also continue to be supported by our older dual cab Mitsubishi which will now be rebadged to Baerami 7B.

The keys were officially handed over this afternoon by our a/district manager, Steve Kada.

This is a first for the Baerami brigade as we have never had a new vehicle previously, always having second hand vehicles from others. We would like to thank Steve and the team for entrusting us with this great new asset.

The new truck provides so many improvements over our old vehicles. This one has Starlink fitted so we maintain communications capability no matter where we go. There are many crew safety features that are new to our brigade including cab and wheel sprays as well as fire curtains that can be rolled down to protect the crew if things get too hot.

With the new RFS livery and vast array of LED reds and blues, we'll certainly stand out when we are working along the local roads.

This new truck will now take on the role as primary response vehicle for the brigade so it will be busy around the local area and sometimes beyond.

Please be advised Bylong Valley Way is currently closed in both directions near 9383 Bylong Valley Way.
We will update this post when the road is re-opened.

Update @ 2:45pm: We have left the scene now so won’t have further information however police have advised us that the road will remain closed for hours. The location is just before Murrumbo Station.

Yesterday Brigades from all different areas and districts came together to conduct a large Hazard Reduction Burn at Bimbadeen. This area had not been burnt for over 25 years.
Baerami 7 got tasked with Brigades from: Killara, Hornsby Rural Fire Brigade and Muogamarra Rural Fire Brigade.
We were also later joined by our friends from NSW RFS- Kayuga Brigade.
After a bit of a slow start, we were kept on our toes with some tough terrain, and lighting up.
Whilst a HR is about protecting the community, it was also a great opportunity to meet people from different brigades and walks of life.

Lest we forget

Today, Anzac Day, is for all Australians and New Zealanders. We are reminded of the sacrifices made for our way of life, and of the values that shaped and unite our communities.

As we mark 111 years since ANZAC soldiers landed at Gallipoli, we acknowledge all who have served our nation – whether in wars, conflicts, peacekeeping or other operations.

Did you remember to test your smoke alarms?

Only working smoke alarms save lives, so taking a moment to crack open your Easter long‑weekend by cleaning and testing your smoke alarm could be the most ‘egg‑cellent’ fire safety step you take for your home.

It’s essential to have working smoke alarms installed in your home, but it’s just as important to give them a test regularly to make sure they continue to protect you, your loved ones, and your home – make no ‘egg‑scuses!

Using the end of daylight saving is a simple way to remember to check your smoke alarms are in working order as we head into the cooler months,

All smoke alarms should be replaced after 10 years, and those with replaceable batteries should be changed annually.

Daylight saving in New South Wales ends on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at 3:00 am, when clocks are set back one hour to 2:00 am.

In NSW, daylight saving time concludes on the first Sunday of April, which in 2026 falls on April 5. At 3:00 am local daylight time, clocks are turned back one hour to 2:00 am, giving an extra hour of sleep and shifting daylight to the morning rather than the evening.

As you change your clocks for the end of daylight saving, it is crucial to test all household smoke alarms and replace their batteries.

A working smoke alarm reduces the risk of fire fatalities by 55%, whereas a flat battery offers no protection.

All smoke alarms need to be replaced every 10 years.

Today the Bush Fire Danger Period ends in our area.
This means Fire Permits are no longer required, but don't forget you still need to notify RFS by visiting
https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp, and also your neighbours - 24 hours prior.

Today, 31 March, marks the end of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the majority of NSW. However, due to the ongoing fire risk, the BFDP will be extended in four Local Government Areas, including Gwydir, Mid-Western, Moree Plains and Narrabri.

While many landholders may no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the RFS and your neighbours of your intention to burn at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.
