💧 Water is essential to every aspect of life, sustaining our communities, environment, economy and wellbeing every day.

Integrated Water Management provides a framework for managing the whole water cycle and bringing organisations together to achieve the best outcomes for the region’s water resources, communities and environment.

By working together, organisations can share knowledge, expertise and resources to address key regional challenges and opportunities, including climate change, flood modelling, future population growth, stormwater and drainage management, recycled water opportunities, and the protection and enhancement of wetlands.

Funded by the Victorian Government’s Integrated Water Management Program.

🌊 Snowy River Flow Update

Higher flows are expected in the Snowy River later this week following a planned water release from Jindabyne Dam on 19 August.

The increased flow is expected to reach the lower Snowy River, including the Orbost area, around 3–4 days later, subject to conditions. The estimated peak water level at Jarrahmond is 1.6m.

Coordinated by NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), high flow releases are designed to mimic natural flow events and improve habitat for fish and other aquatic animals, promote vegetation establishment and improve the river’s channel.

Sharing this information from Agriculture Victoria to help keep everyone informed about the upcoming bird flu information session in Lakes Entrance.

Agriculture Victoria is the lead agency for the response to avian influenza and is the best source for the latest information.

Local community members are invited to an H5 bird flu information session in Lakes Entrance.

With the recent detection of H5 bird flu in Lakes Entrance, these sessions are a chance to hear directly from our staff about the current situation and advice for the community.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

🌳 Making a difference, one working bee at a time. 🪲

Bairnsdale Urban Landcare Group’s project along the Mitchell River Walking Track continues to make a positive impact for the local environment.

At a recent site visit, the group shared updates on their ongoing efforts, including monthly working bees focused on w**d control and maintaining previous plantings. W**d species being tackled include English ivy, date palms, wild fennel and cape ivy.

Throughout late autumn and early winter, volunteers expanded revegetation efforts with additional planting. One exciting highlight was the discovery of Pomaderris prunifolia, a native species not planted by the group and believed to have naturally established through seeds dispersed by local wildlife.

Thank you to everyone involved in this long-term project, funded through the Our Catchments Our Communities program.
