๐Ÿพ SHOW US YOUR PETS! ๐Ÿพ

Itโ€™s International Dog Day, and while weโ€™re reminding everyone to include their pets in their emergency and bushfire plans, we thought weโ€™d do something much more importantโ€ฆ

We want to see your pets! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿด๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฆ

Big dogs, little dogs, cats who definitely run the household, horses, birds, rabbits, and donโ€™t forget the goats, whatever furry, feathered or slightly chaotic family members you have, drop a photo in the comments! ๐Ÿ“ธ

And while youโ€™re showing them off, have a quick think: are they included in your emergency plan?

โœ”๏ธ How will you transport them?
โœ”๏ธ Do you have food, water and medications ready?
โœ”๏ธ Where will they go if you need to evacuate?
โœ”๏ธ Do you have leads, carriers or other essentials easy to grab?

Because when itโ€™s time to leave, theyโ€™re coming too. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Plan for every member of the family โ€” even the ones with four legs.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Nowโ€ฆ enough serious stuff. SHOW US YOUR PETS! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ”ฅ HAZMAT & VEHICLE FIRE TRAINING ๐Ÿš’

A busy morning of training for our crew today, focusing on HAZMAT Awareness and Vehicle Fires.

We kicked things off at the station with some theory, covering the hazards we may encounter, how to identify and assess risks, and the importance of keeping ourselves and the community safe when responding to these types of incidents.

Then it was time to put the theory into practice! The crew headed down to our old fire station and the Bakers Hill Recreation Centre for some hands-on training and practical scenarios.

A great morning of learning, refreshing skills and getting some valuable practical experience in. Thanks to everyone who came along and got involved โ€” nothing beats getting out there and putting the training into action. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

In the comments of the original post is more information about the coming summer.

Bushfire season is already well underway in WA's north! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ”ฅ

More than 300 bushfires have burned across the Kimberley and Pilbara since 1 June. And as we head towards spring, the bushfire risk is beginning to shift across the State.

The latest AFAC spring outlook shows an elevated bushfire risk across parts of the Pilbara, Mid West and Great Southern.

While southern WA is expected to remain average, that could change quickly โ€“ especially after the South West's second-driest July on record. The rain forecast for October will be critical to counter drier soils and avoid an early start to southern bushfire season.

Dangerous bushfires can happen anywhere, even in areas with an average risk. So don't wait for the weather to turn, use spring to get your home and family ready by clearing trees and long grass from around your home, clean out your gutters and check your firebreaks.

Create an emergency plan on the Emergency WA app or website so you know when you'll leave, where you will go and what you'll take.

๐Ÿš’ A Trip Down Memory Lane โ€“ 2020 ๐Ÿš’

Remember whenโ€ฆ learning how to deploy a flaked hose felt like a serious workout? ๐Ÿ˜‚

Throwing it back to 2020, with some of our members getting hands-on practice deploying, using and, perhaps most importantly, packing up a flaked hose after vehicle checks and our brigade meeting.

Six years on, weโ€™re pretty sure the hose hasnโ€™t gotten any lighter! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Itโ€™s great looking back at photos like these and seeing how much our members have learnt, grown and developed their skills over the years.

Want to be part of the next chapter? ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Weโ€™re always on the lookout for new members. You might even get to experience the joy of packing hose yourself! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿš’

If you didnโ€™t receive the AusAlert test message today, your feedback is important.

The nationwide test helps emergency services make sure warnings reach as many people as possible when they matter most. If your phone didnโ€™t receive the test alert, please take a couple of minutes to complete the official feedback survey.

Every response helps identify areas where the system can be improved, ensuring emergency alerts are more reliable during bushfires, storms, floods and other emergencies.

๐Ÿ“ Complete the survey here:
https://www.ausalert.gov.au/feedback

Thank you for helping improve emergency warnings for everyone. Please share this post so others who may have missed the alert can provide their feedback too.

21/07/2026

Just about every mobile phone in Australia...

And some smart watches and tablets too - will vibrate, play a loud siren-like sound and display an AusAlert critical alert for roughly 10 seconds on Monday 27 July 2026 at 12 noon AWST.

In the future, AusAlert may be used for a range of emergencies, including bushfires, serious public safety incidents, animal or plant diseases and pandemics.

This alert is not sent through the Emergency WA app or any other emergency services app. AusAlert is a new federal government initiative that forms part of Australia's nationally operated emergency alert system, designed to deliver warnings during serious emergencies.
