Balingup Golden Valley Tree Park

Balingup Golden Valley Tree Park This page celebrates the Golden Valley Tree Paqrk (GVTP) and those who visit and nurture it. The Park has significant collections of oaks and of WA trees.

The Botanic Collection
Golden Valley Tree Park is the largest arboretum in Western Australia, both in terms of area and number of species. The Park is divided into two sections, one area of 25ha for Australian trees and the other area of 35ha for the World Collection. Set in the beautiful landscape of the Blackwood Valley, there are over three thousand individual trees planted of four hundred dif

ferent species. Some specimens of which date back one hundred years to when the original farming properties were established. Every year the collection is increased. The Arboretum is listed on the Australian Directory of Botanic Gardens. GVTP is a thirty five year and ongoing dynamic partnership between community volunteers and the Department of Parks and Wildlife. The Tree Park runs on the love of trees. Tree establishment and care of the Park is provided by volunteers. Last year over sixty people volunteered at the Park. Income comes from tree sponsorships and donations. To become a supporter of the arboretum join Friends of Golden Valley Tree Park. It costs $20 and you will receive annual newsletters. Email [email protected]

Haven't had time to get to the park iin the last few days but thankfully Esma Jusupovic Obic sent these in. WARNING: those pretty mushrooms are NOT the ones Balingup is (in)famous for, they will make you very sick and possibly kill you if you ingest them ๐Ÿ’š

I thought that I had taken a video but it appears not. Here's a couple of stills from this afternoon. It should be a wonderful winter's weekend in the tree park. Sunshine and lovely weather. And we'll even continue throughout next week unfortunately because we badly need rain as well. ๐Ÿ’š

Apologies for the link, but I just have 't had the time to download and then upload.. Sunday at the Park๐Ÿ’š

It's a busy Solstice Season but if you have time there's plenty happening in the Park

Hi Everybody,

Driven partly out of guilt at not organising more busy-bees, and partly out of fancy to mark Sunday afternoonโ€™s Solstice by with fire, had a wont to put out a call. Spoiler was the adverse weather forecast of some showers for Sunday afternoon, (along with a niggling mystical worry about potent; that while fire is welcome against the current cold might not we be conjuring it up less welcome in the coming summer).

But the weather forecasts are not always right, and marking the Solstice somehow seems to be an comforting anchor in the current madness, so break out the brollies brave souls and give it a go!

So the plan is to light up to four piles adjacent to the new fence on the Old Padbury Road boundary. For some piles that consist of a lot of green material we would need to collect and apply dry wood to create enough heat to get them started. That would achieve some tidying up.

With enough troops we could also achieve some liberating overdue removal of nearby tree guards as a precursor to tree planting. But fires first.

The Solstice is at 4.25pm, so starting from 2pm.

Kind regards,

Andrew
